Did Nick Simmons PLAGIARIZE Bleach with the Comic, Incarnate?
He totally did!
As referenced here, Several panels from Bleach are traced (or at least "eyeballed with very few changes"), character designs are lifted from other manga such as Hellsing and One Piece, and even some of the lines in the comic are taken from the dialogue in Bleach!
This is unacceptable!
Why Does This Matter?
Tracing art is WRONG, no matter who you are!
Being a celebrity's son doesn't mean you get to sell other people's artwork (especially when some of that artwork is from several well-known manga!)In addition to tracing several distinct panels from Bleach, there are also several character designs taken from other works (like One Piece and Hellsing), at least one fanartist whose work has been traced, and even concepts from White Wolf (and their World of Darkness) have been lifted whole-cloth!
"Inspired" or not, these are well-known works, especially by the audience that would most likely be drawn to this style, and comic book series have been canceled for less!
Tracing Art is Wrong! Nick Simmons should be ashamed of himself! Sadly, his friends and family are either clueless or enabling him to continue stealing art...

Recoloring, in any form, is art theft. Tracing is art theft. It is not professional or acceptable to take someone elses' art. Just because "manga looks the same" (shitty excuse. These pictures dont seem that bad, but if you look at other panels and comparisons, ull see why people are so infuriated by this.
i understand that as a beginning mangaka, is it very difficult NOT to be influenced by art and manga you love.
But what drew the line for me was when I found that he ripped off FANART from deviantart AND MADE NO EFFORT TO CHANGE EVEN THE SLIGHTEST BIT.
Those in denial, do a little more research if you are truly openminded, look at the comparisions (not just the ones here), and if you STILL think he didn't rip off anyone else, then good day to you. If you wish to live in denial that's your problem.

I guess understand the whole copying/inspired thing, I did the same thing when I was in 8th grade but then I found my own style and didn't need to copy anymore because I practiced and felt confident in myself and the art I could create. He even copied quotes from bleach, which I WILL NOT believe to be a conicidence. Bleach is pretty well known for the poems and quotes created and thought by Tite Kubo himself.

Well he didn't draw that, some other manga artist helped him.

Fans are angry not ONLY because he ripped off manga, it's also because he gives a forced, pathetic excuse for an "apology", claiming that it is merely a tribute to his favorite manga.
The problem is how this boy thinks.
If it is not yours, you can not sell it, you can not claim it as "drawn and written by me", you can not do that. It is wrong

If you have seen his deivantart account, his drawing style is NOTHING like the style of Incarnate.
My point: What he is doing it not "homage" is it STEALING
All we want is an apology, a SINCERE apology.
Just learn from your mistakes and correct them, the more his denies or makes "excuses" and "reasons", the angrier people will get.

Yes, the panels look similar, some too similar, but when you read or see something and are a fan of it, there is no doubt that it will influence you. Some of the comparisons I've seen that people have been saying are plagiarized I completely disagree with because first of all, the manga style tends to be art specific, and manga tends to be full of emotionally heavy artwork (like exaggerated gestures and facial expressions, like the typical peace sign and big smile). I think after seeing a few of the side-by-side comparisons people freak out and say "yup he plagiarized for sure! What a dick!", but they don't stop to think about WHY he would do that, what would CAUSE him to do that, or if it was just an accident caused by his subconscious and love of Bleach. Some of these panels, of the girl looking straight at you, they are not some kind of signature panel; they aren't uncommon expressions to have and the angle is not uncommon either. I personally have done a few drawings of that same angle and emotion of a girl crying (honestly), and it's just because everyone thinks that it's a great image to convey a specific feeling to the reader/viewer. I also feel that maybe, out of desperation to work on the comic, that there is of course a chance that he looked through his own bleach mangas to see what he needs to bring out a scene in his story; although even if this is true, there is no reason to trace and copy the actual figure in the panel. This is why I am leaning far towards the theory that he didn't realize that he was using similar panels from Bleach when working through his comic, but just that he subconsciously recalled a pose that fit the emotion he was trying to convey; but it unfortunately was straight from Bleach. It really isn't hard to believe, because the poses and actions are very specific in the panels and would leave a larger impact to the reader/viewer, so it's no doubt why the poses would pop in his head when thinking about what he wants to draw. Everyone's pissed and getting on his back about it when it was probably a mistake of some sort (because I really don't think he's so stupid to copy like that, especially with such a popular manga). He was just starting out...I really feel bad for him.

- Let's face it, he's most certainly an art thief. I find it sad to see that just because Bleach is an anime and that Nick's lines are "cleaner" that they believe that it's okay that he traced over and completely stole Tite Kubo's characters and style. Not to mention the style of many people on deviantart as well as Hellsing and a few other animes.
Such blatant plagiarism is illegal. You pull a stunt like Nick did in the real world and you're just screwed. In school you can just get a bad grade. In real life you can be paying hundreds or thousands of dollars if not facing some sort of jail time.
That being said, I like how classy Tite Kubo's being about this.
