Nickelback
Nickelback -The Canadian rock band Nickelback was formed in Hanna, Alberta by Chad Kroeger, Mike Kroeger, Ryan Peake and Brandon Kroeger.
They have started to hit the cahrts in 1999 with their album The State. Ever since they are consistently producing great rock that makes it into the charts. See the four albums described below:

The disc's most impressive and simultaneously surreal moment, however, exists on "Side of a Bullet," a passionate revenge tale written about the killer of Pantera guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, which features one of the late Abbott's guitar solos as donated by Pantera bandmate and brother, drummer Vinnie Paul. -- Denise Sheppard

On the surface, Nickelback has always appeared a band arguably too hard for pop radio but perhaps too mainstream for most diehard rock traditionalists; however, ALL THE RIGHT REASONS gives fans of all music the chance to enjoy what they have to offer.
It's one terrific album with crossover potential that should please the group's strongest followers as well as endear new listeners to the fold. "Photograph" is one great track -- written clearly by minds who've learned the lessons of looking forward by looking back -- but it's hardly alone:
"Far Away" is equally introspective with a broader sound if not a tad more anthemic; "Fight For All The Wrong Reasons" is a head-shaking rock rattler written to please the band's core fans; "Someone That You're With" blares out for eventual audiences in arenas around the world; and "Rock Star," "Savin' Me," and "If Everyone Cared" round out just one tremendous listening experience. The formula remains pretty much the same - nothing fancy, just radio-friendly grunge that lends an appropriately dramatic backing to the powerful and increasingly confident voice of Chad Kroeger. Aside from the fast and punchy opener "Flat on the Floor," the tough, staccato "Because of You," and the Oasis-like "Figured You Out," the band deal exclusively in soft-rock anthems (soft, that is, by 2003's pulverizing standards).
The only real change here lies is in Kroeger's lyrical concerns. Where 2000's The State found him suffering the frustrations of small-town life, now he's tortured by a heavy touring schedule that promotes destructive drug abuse and strains relationships to breaking point.
That said, you can't help feeling the ruthlessly analytical Kroeger would turn a visit to the supermarket into a riot of hatred and self-recrimination. For fans of Silver Side Up, Nickelback have delivered the goods once more. - Dominic Wills

Nickelback's 2001 Album
The band's second album, Silver Side Up, starts with "Never Again," an angry tirade against domestic violence that sheds light on the issue without too much sap or sentiment. The album's catchy radio hit "How You Remind Me" and the song "Woke Up This Morning" tell of rotting relationships, while other tracks touch on damaged hope and lost dreams.
The post-grunge, alt-metal combo backing these songs packs as strong a punch as the lyrical material, going hard with lots of hooks. The additional slide guitar on "Hangnail" and sludgy, alt-metal riffs on "Hollywood," "Money Bought," and "Where Do I Hide" add a little meat to the alt-rock bones on Silver, elevating Nickelback above the heap of copycat rockers clogging the airwaves. -- Jennifer Maerz

This is the best of the best of Nickelback to date with great songs created with the essence of messages behind each song. Almost each song has an internal message and a heart felt plea of modern ailments that is affecting our societies today such as drug and alcohol abuse, domestic voilence, cheating etc. All these songs cover these issues and more. Each song is sung with emotion and feeling by Chad and followed up by the rest of the band.
This is Nickelback at their superb best. Other great songs to listen too are Too Bad (a father and son relationship that goes sour), Money Brought (where fame leads to corruption) and Hangnail (a breakup between a couple - from a male's perspective) - Petar Vodogaz "Commissioner" (Sydney, NSW Australia)

The State is consciously dramatic--sweet strums are overwhelmed by crashing waves of distorted guitar. Singer Chad Kroeger meaningfully wails tales of small-town woe, centering on complex relationships, a claustrophobic underground culture, and the struggle between staying and leaving.
Yet Nickelback are at their best when they set aside their Pearl Jam debts, as with the heavy "Deep," the grinding "Not Leavin' Yet," and the more experimental "Worthy to Say."
Nickelback are good, but still growing--possibly into something great. -- Dominic Wills

I started off as a fan of Nickelback after their Curb CD. Realising that they had a debut album I decided to buy this one and whilst many of the songs were listenable they were to me flat sounding. Nickelback was relatively new on the music world stage and it took them sometime to get their footing and become well known. It was only ever going to be a matter of time.
This CD is not going to be for everybody, however it is a introduction to how Nickelback sounded at the beginning and their musical evolution over a matter of time.
