What makes a movie the best?
A great plot. Eye candy. Spectacular stars and special effects. A moving message.
Any of these things can make a great movie. Sometimes it's just one thing, and other times it's a combination. A great movie doesn't have to have all of these - sometimes only one can make a film a hit.

Star Trek
How do I love thee?Zoë Saldana, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Karl Urban, John Cho, and countless cameos by other well-known actors. I really would love to find a FULL cast list, including several bridge members who sound/look incredibly familiar. LOVE IT.
I'm a Trekkie, and always have been, and J.J. Abrams did an amazing job. I can't wait for the next one!
Tangled
This is my favorite animated film of all time. It's funny for kids and adults alike. It's romantic. It's dramatic. It's action packed. It has a horse that acts like a dog.
A strong female lead meets a strong male lead meets a whole lot of hair. I laugh and cry every time I watch this.
Gran Torino
This man reminds me of my grandfather. He's old, ornery, and thinks he can still take care of himself after his wife passes. He reluctantly falls in love with the family next door, despite his racist mindset. It was supposed to be a drama, but I laughed just as much as I cried when I watched it.It's a very strong movie, with strong themes, and it does not compromise.
Last Holiday
This movie embodies a favorite idea of mine that I've tried to turn into a book several times, but can't do it better than this so I don't. To find out you have an expiration date, to throw away the last of your money living exactly as you please? I love it. And Queen Latifah does an excellent job of being downtrodden, funny, sassy, and faithful without putting anyone off or having it feel fake. See one you liked?
I did!
I own these movies, without exception. If my house burned down and I had to replace my collection, these are the discs I would buy.
Black Dog
This is funny - I haven't ever particularly liked Patrick Swayze as an actor. And Meatloaf and Randy Travis don't do anything for me either. I didn't much like any of the actors, except perhaps the dog.But give me big trucks and explosions, and I'm a happy girl. Obviously, because I still love this movie and still own it. On VHS. I need to update that, I think.

Writing is my life, but it is not enough. I also parent, read, sleep, and love. (Not necessarily in that order.) ;)
