A Review of the Nikon D5100 SLR Digital Camera
Ranked #10,443 in Computers & Electronics, #209,687 overall
The Nikon D5100 DSLR Camera
The new Nikon D5100 SLR Camera fits in between the existing D3100 and D7000 models. Not just in terms of functionality and feature set, but however, also in terms of size and weight. It isn't as compact and lightweight as the D3100 nor is it as heavy and bulky as the D7000 model. Compared to its predecessor, the D5100 is around 10% smaller than the D5000, as well as 10% lighter. The right-hand grip is a little deeper and therefore slightly more comfortable for photographers with large hands and/or fairly longish fingers than on the D5000. There's also a rubberised thumb rest on the back of the body which is very handy.

A Short Review of the Nikon D5100
Worth the wait?
The Nikon D5100 effectively fills the slot between the Novice-Friendly approach of the D3100 and the rather more complex D7000, with the latter's incredible 16 megapixel sensor completing the camera. The D5100 does have a couple of minor usage concerns, the most noticeable being the positioning of the Live View switch and the secondary controls on the rear. It could also be seen as being neither simple enough for complete beginners, nor feature-rich enough for more advanced users. Although, overall, the D5100 takes excellent still and moving pictures without a commotion, in a lightweight package and is a serious competitor to the Canon EOS 600D and the Sony A55.
