Announced in late 2010, the Nikon D7000 is one of the most important cameras to come out in quite some time. This new camera fits inbetween the range of Nikon's Semi Professional D300s and the D90. The camera has been given a number of upgrades that puts it far superior to the D90 and may even make it a decent competitor to the D300s.

Nikon d7000 Review

When the d7000 was announced it really took a lot of people by surprise. We had all known for a while that Nikon was working on a D90 successor, we never expected the new camera to have specifications that were so similar to the D300s. In a lot of cases, the D7000 is even better then D300s(its semi professional cousin). This is definitely a compelling upgrade to both the D90 and the D300s.

Those who have used a D90 will feel right at home with the new d7000. They both feel almost exactly the same. They both have a high quality magnesium alloy shell but the d7000 does have slightly thicker rubber on the hand grip and around the backside of the camera(this is a welcome upgrade in my book).

The new D7000 has the second highest resolution of any Nikon DSLR available right now. It can shoot at 16.2 Mp which is second only to the- significantly more expensive- D3X.

The D7000 also has a few new features such as AF and a metering system. This is one of the most significant upgrades over the D90. This allows the camera to essentially track a subject based on color. Other changes include a significantly upgraded movie shooting function allowing it to now shoot in Full HD- 1920x1080 (also known as 1080p)- at twenty four frames per second.

Those of us who have been faithful users of the D90 have been waiting for a replacement for quite some time. While I won't say the D90 is completely ready for retirement, this is the first great upgrade option we have seen.
