Nikon Series E Lenses

Nikon produced the group of small, light weight and affordable lenses called the Nikon Series E lenses designed originally to complement the small size and weight of the super compact camera body of Nikon EM, FG and the FG-20 35mm film SLRs.

Many of the series E lenses are a replica of the more famed Nikkor optics, performs surprisingly good uniform image quality and feature same F bayonet mount in order they can used on any AI-spec Nikon SLR bodies.

Some of Nikon innovation such as NIC was used throughout in these lenses and overall, optical quality were generally above average when compared to other third party OEM lenses produced within the same time period.

Adaptability to Current Digital SLRs

With an appropriate adapter, which is available for most current model digital SLRs, these Nikon Series E lenses can provide you with a lower cost alternative, a more robust design and a shot in the arm for the more creative artistic photographer. It will still remain a manual focus lens though.

Compatibility with the current crop of Nikon digital SLRs, however, are limited by the ability of Nikon's onboard computer chips to recognize the lenses resulting in the lens being capable to be used with metering on the more advanced three digit Nikons (D300, D200) while for the lesser you are stuck with purely the manual everything mode.

This lens shares virtually similar optical design, technical configuration and a maximum aperture with the more rigid Nikkor lens counterpart, but this lens only weighs a light 395g versus 610g of the early Non-Ai Nikkor 135mm f/2.8 and 435g for more popular Ai-S Nikkor 135mm f/2.8 version introduced later. The aperture stops down to useful f/32 for greater control over depth of field.
