Nim's Island-Inspired Learning
A collection of Nim's Island free lesson plans, activities, and resources.
I'm currently reading my children Nim's Island, and weaving their homeschool lessons around it. I thought I'd share the resources and ideas I gathered in preparation. The story offers a launchpad for learning about hurricanes, volcanoes, oceans, solar and wind energy, wilderness survival, and so much more, with great related activities. I was inspired by what I found and hope it helps others, too.

Unit Study
Laura O'Neill's Nim's Island Unit Study on Homeschool Share provides detailed lessons in art, various sciences (many, from gardening to weather), language arts, PE, and social studies, taking us chapter by chapter and with links to related online resources. I love how thorough this is.
From Walden Media
At their official Nim's Island educational activity page, Walden Media offers downloadable resources created in partnership with NOAA's National Marine Sanctuary Program and the National Wildlife Federation. Free for download are a teacher's guide, informational poster, and activities designed to help students understand organisms and their habitats. The activities are targeted for grades 1-2 and grades 3-5.

- I love Nim's Island!!! This is a great resource. I'll have to use some of the resources here when my little guy gets a bit older. Blessed by an Angel and lensrolled to my Nim's Island and Lynn's Island lenses.
