How to make a Lego Ninjago Cake

Are you wondering how to make a Lego Ninjago cake? I'll share my simple Ninjago Kai cake and lots of other ideas for a very cool Ninja birthday cake. My cake is quick and easy to make, some of the others I feature are more elaborate for the advanced cake decorator!

I'm Mom to two boys who love Lego Ninjago. Ninjago makes a great theme for a birthday party. A homemade cake is a great touch. My boys always talk about their birthday cakes and like to plan the next one. We even make little decorated cakes in between as birthdays can see very far apart!

Ninjago Jay and Kai Head Cakes

Simple Ninjago Cake: This is my simple cake featuring the head of Kai, the red ninja of fire. He's the main hero character in Ninjago so he's very popular.

The goal for this cake was to come up with something quick and easy. There's so much else you have to do when preparing for a birthday party! (I did have a preschooler helper, I'm sure you can do a better job!)

How to make this Ninjago Cake
Ninjago Cake using Ninjago Headband Packaging: Oh this is a cheeky one! Melissa at Simply Cakes used the packaging from a Ninjago headband as a cake topper. We've got two of the Ninjago headbands and I didn't think of that.

If you want to make a Lego Ninjago Minifigure Cake then this Lego Minifigure cake mold is a good place to start to give you the basic shape.

The basic approach is to cover the cake in colored fondant - red for Kai, blue for Jay, white for Zane or Sensei Wu, black for Cole. Or maybe green for that green ninja (who is that green Ninja?)

Fondant Ninjago Ninja Decorating - A simpler approach

If decorating the whole cake seems too daunting then you could use the simplified approach that I took for my Chocolate Ninjago Ninjas Party Treat.

I used the Lego Minifigure ice cube mold to make chocolate Ninjago ninjas and decorated them with strips of fondant. You could apply the same approach to a fullsize Lego Minifigure Ninjago cake.

Another option would be to make lots of Ninjas and Ninjago skeleton enemies and use those as a cake topper. The kids would think it was very cool if they each got a chocolate Ninjago character on their slice of birthday cake!

Kai Red Ninja Cake: I like the way the bottom of Kai's headscarf has been shaped on this one.

Sensei Wu Spinner Cake: I love this Sensei Wu spinner cake from PanjoKids. Not the simplest of cakes to build, but it looks very cool. She actually used the Lego Man cake mold to make Sensei Wu out of chocolate! What an awesome Mom.
Cut Fondant Sensei Wu Cake: And here's a completely different Sensei Wu cake which would take less time to make. This time Sensei Wu is cut from white fondant shapes. Very effective and professional looking.
