Introduction to the Nintendo Wii Console

As of November 19th, 2006, the next-generation console wars have officially been renamed to the current-generation console wars. November 19th marked the release of the Wii, Nintendo's newest console. This came only two days after Sony launched its PlayStation 3 on the 17th. The Wii's release has gamers the world over excited about gaming. Nintendo is back for another round of the console wars with its Wii. After failing to meet expectations with the GameCube, Nintendo has changed its focus and is taking console gaming into a brand new direction. With the Wii, Nintendo aims to attract not only the hardcore gamers, but non-gamers as well. It may sound crazy, but if the recent overwhelming success of its handheld system the DS Lite is any indication, Nintendo may be on to something. What makes the Wii so special? It isn't its amazing graphics. In fact, its graphics are only minimally superior to that of the original XBOX. What truly has people captivated is the way the games are played. Nintendo has introduced a brand new way of playing games. Gone are the days of button mashing on a joystick or gaming pad. With the Wii, you simply move the wand-like controller. Your actions are represented in real time on your television. The controller does have buttons on it, but there are far less of them compared to the XBOX360 and PlayStation3 controllers. Although only the basic games can be played with this remote, the more complex games require you to use a special remote attachment. The Nun-chuk is an attachment that you plug in to the base of the regular remote. It contains an analog stick, as well as two trigger buttons. The nun-chuk's many uses include moving your character, shooting guns, interacting with various objects.

Gaming companies have never been shy of playing games with release dates, and until recently the secrecy surrounding the release dates for the Nintendo Wii had been a prime example.

The confusion and conflicting messages even prompted one site to suggest that Nintendo had released a DS game that, when completed, would tell you the secret Nintendo Wii release date. This turned out to be a hoax, but it had an awful air of credibility about it.

Now, though, Nintendo appears to have put its cards on the table. In North America, the Wii goes on sale on the 19th of November - two days after the expected release date of the PS3. Rather than racing to be first out of the box, Nintendo seems to be banking on Sega botching the release of the PS3 about as badly as Microsoft did that of the Xbox 360, chronic under-supply leaving many gamers badly frustrated. There is also considerable buzz around the innovative Nintendo Wii controller or 'wiimote' that may draw many American gamers away from the more traditional consoles: when you have something truly original to offer, releasing first becomes less important.

After this, the Wii rolls out across the world remarkably slowly - possibly to avoid under-supply problems - Amazon's attempts to take pre-orders for the Wii back in September caused total chaos.
Japan will be next on the 2nd of December, then Australia and New Zealand on the 7th. Europe follows on the 8th, except for Spain, as that day is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception and a public holiday. The Wii will be released in Spain on the 9th of December.

Sony had about 400000 PlayStation 3s in North American stores on Friday. Nintendo launches Wii, challenging Sony. The Sony Playstation(R) 3 and Nintendo Wii(R) consoles have quickly become the most sought after items for the holiday season. Following the Japan launch on Saturday, Sony planned to start rolling out the PS3 on November 17 in North America, and next March in Europe. At $500 to $600, the Sony PlayStation 3, due Friday, is roughly twice as expensive as the $250 Nintendo Wii, out Sunday. INDUSTRY PUNDIT David Cole says that Sony has dropped the ball and could be splattered by Nintendo Wii. Which system will rule: Sony PlayStation 3 or Nintendo Wii. With the arrival of the Sony PlayStation 3 (Friday) and Nintendo Wii (Saturday) later this week, it's the biggest time for video games since. Nintendo and Sony are about to launch a global war in your living room.

The next generation console wars are under way with the arrival of Sony's long-awaited PlayStation 3, Nintendo's Wii, and Microsoft's XBOX 360. The Xbox 360 finally has some competition: The PlayStation 3 is now available (in extremely limited quantities), as is the Nintendo Wii. While everyone speculates about and compares the upcoming Playstation 3 with the Xbox 360, the Nintendo Wii has been overlooked. Wii, Nintendo's challenge to Sony PlayStation, goes on sale, sells out. Parents might not have time to play games if they are considering buying a new Sony PlayStation 3 or Nintendo Wii for their children during the holidays.

Nintendo has promised an initial release of four million consoles available before the end of 2006, with the majority of the products distributed in North America.

There have been conflicting messages about how many will be released in that market though, one million and two million both having been mentioned by senior figures in Nintendo. That leaves an uneasiness in the market that under-supply may still be a problem in the U.S. and Canada.

Nintendo has traditionally and consistently come third in the console wars in the U.S. and Europe. Not often recognised in those markets is Nintendo's huge popularity in Asia, where they regularly outsell their competitors.

It's worth noting, then, that there are strong rumours that the Wii will not be released in South-East Asia until April 2007, after the end of the 2006 financial year. (This would coincide with the scheduled release of the PS3 in Europe, New Zealand, and Australia.) Given Nintendo have announced they will only be releasing six million console units before March, this wouldn't be sufficient to satisfy the market in South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Singapore.

Strengthening the suspicion that South-East Asia will get a later release date, Nintendo have announced that while the Wii will initially be released only with white controllers, the wiimotes will be available in other colors 'in the spring'.

The Nintendo Wii Controller: Pros and Cons

You may be wondering how a game controller with so few buttons actually works. That is where the beauty and innovation comes in. The Wii remote works similarly to a computer mouse. You simply point it at the screen to control various objects. The innovation does not end there however. The Wii-mote has built-in motion sensing technology. Your movements are recorded and translated on screen in the game. For example if you were playing a game
of tennis, you simply make a swinging motion to hit the ball. There are many sensors that determine how hard you swing, your timing, etc. Tennis games are no longer simply clicking buttons. The Wii-mote puts you directly in the action.

Although the Wii controller is innovative and has many uses, it does lack functionality for more complex games. This is why Nintendo also made available a special attachment for its Wii-mote, called the 'nun-chuk.' This attachment plugs into the bottom of the standard Wii remote. The nun-chuk has the same motion sensing technology as the Wii-mote. It contains two trigger buttons and an analog stick. With the two remotes, the potential for different combinations far surpasses any other gaming controller.

As if two remotes weren't enough, Nintendo has also released a special controller to play games on its Virtual Console. Although these particular games can be played with a Nintendo GameCube controller, the classic or metro controller is for people who don't have GameCube remotes. This controller does not have any motion sensing technology, and can only be used for games on the Virtual Console.

As is the case with any new technology, there are some kinks and adjustments that need to be taken care of. Some games have some strange control schemes that don't use the remotes to their full potential. This may seem like the remotes lack in functionality; however this is not really the fault of Nintendo. It is the responsibility of the third-party game developers. The launch titles released by Nintendo have no control issues whatsoever. It is just a matter of the game developers getting used to how the controls work best.

Nintendo Wii Gaming - How Different Is it?

The Nintendo Wii is a game system like no other. This system brings interactive gaming to a whole new level. This is a game system that requires player participation. Many games on Wii are difficult to play or you will score poorly if you are not up and actively playing.

You actually swing if you are batting, punch if you are boxing, and soon will even run if that is what the game requires. In the matter of a round you can actually work up a sweat! In most games these days the highest level of interaction you can expect is steering a wheel. This game system is beginning a revolution.

Another thing owners of the Nintendo GameCube will love is that most of their games will still work in this new system.

Just imagine a game where you can actually use it to work out and get healthy. It would calculate your BMI and tell you what you need to do to get a healthy weight. Also you would be told if you were not doing it correctly. This game is becoming a reality.

It is called Wii Fit and it tracks your weight, tracks the calories you burn based on your body specifications and the workout you do. You can use it to dance, do push ups, stair step, and so much more. This is a game that will help families get healthier but still give kids the "game time" they cannot live without. It will be available in May 2008.

Unlike other game systems the Wii comes with 5 games standard. Wii golf, baseball, boxing, tennis and bowling are all part of the standard packages that have Wii Sports. All standard hookups are included with the package as well as well as the controller set.

Another great feature about the Wii is that it has Bluetooth. You can add it to your home network and watch movies or play music from your computer. The Wii also allows you to watch DVDs, so it can double as a DVD player. It has all of the features of a regular game system but with much more added technology.

This system is changing the way video game systems are thought of. No more will they only be assumed as being for children or couch potatoes, but will now be considered for the everyday household - especially those who are trying to get healthy. This system teaches young children the basics of hand-eye coordination and keeps them active at the same time. A four or five year old can play the Diego game and it teaches them: direction, different animals and has them stay active by climbing ladders and other activities.

This is definitely a safe, family friendly game system. It has games for children under five to adults of any age. There is something for everyone. This is the only system that just might that has an abundance of early childhood games and mostly just family friendly games, so finally you can get a fun system your family will love and it won't make you feel guilty.

Scott Fitzgerald. The plot throws linear conventions upside down to explore love, loss and memory from the perspective of a character living under incredibly unique -- and unexpectedly difficult -- circumstances. 006- No Country for Old Men: A hunter (Josh Brolin) who stumbles upon a dead body, $2 million and a stash of heroin in a Texas desert absconds with the cash. The roles of prey and predator blur as violent pursuits of money and justice collide in this Oscar-winning morality tale from directors Joel and Ethan Coen, which nabbed the Best Picture prize.
007- Casino Royale: Martin Campbell (GoldenEye) directs the 21st film adaptation of the 007 franchise, which marks Daniel Craig's debut as James Bond and plays him against a corrupt financier (Mads Mikkelsen) in a showdown of Texas Hold 'Em. Eva Green stars as Vesper Lynd, and the sublime Judi Dench reprises her role as M. Because the action is based on Ian Fleming's first novel, you'll also learn critical facts about Bond's back story.
008- Little Miss Sunshine: Convinced their little Olive (Abigail Breslin) is beauty queen material, parents Richard (Greg Kinnear) and Sheryl (Toni Collette) load the rest of the family into a van and embark on a life-altering road trip to a California pageant. Richard pushes Olive to win while her silent brother (Paul Dano), depressed uncle (Steve Carell) and nursing-home reject grandpa (Alan Arkin, in an Oscar-winning role) add their own quirks to the mix.
009- Blood Diamond: In war-ravaged Sierra Leone, diamond smuggler Danny Archer (Leonardo DiCaprio) learns that a local fisherman (Djimon Hounsou) has stumbled upon a gigantic gem, and he offers to reunite the man with his family in exchange for the diamond. 015- Walk the Line: This critically acclaimed biopic distills country singer Johnny Cash's (Joaquin Phoenix, in an Academy Award-nominated role) transformation from man to icon -- from his hardscrabble days on an Arkansas farm to his time inside Memphis's Sun Studios, where he finally found a voice for his talents.
