Nintendo Power Glove

Ranked #12,797 in Games, #641,832 overall

The Big Brother of the Nintendo Wii Controllers????

The power glove really feels and looks like and item that belongs with the Nintendo Wii. I guess the real only difference is that you have to plug it in. You have wires and sensors every where. When you use the Wii everything has bluetooth technology.

To be honest with you I feel the power glove is a little awkward to wear. As far as the movements go its okay, but you have to push the buttons that are on your wrist. This I think can be a little awkward.

The power glove makes me think this is what started the Wii. Granite their wasn't bluetooth technology back in the 80's. If you sit back and think about it, It really makes sense. With the sensors and what not.

What the Heck is It

So you as a reader of my lense has never used the power glove, but curious. I guess its simple really. Only two games were released with specific features for use with the Power Glove, Super Glove Ball, and Bad Street Brawler. Both games where suppose to have cool moves you could do with the glove. Once the glove was released it wasn't as popular as hoped. The glove was never released in Japan. Only in the US market, and many people consider it to be a FLOP! Due to inability of the controller to always work as you want it too. Not to mention loosing your patience with the glove. I guess if your like me the Power Glove is a collectors item today.  So if your looking to buy a power glove or maybe you want to sell your power glove, The Old School Game Vault enables you to sell used video games for cash today!

In summary I think the power glove made a bigger splash in Hollywood, than in the gaming market in the 80's. I busted out my power glove, just try it out while I was making this page. It took me 15 tries just to finish Super Mario Bros. Level 1. I think its more of a collectors item, then an actual controller, or you'll be disappointed.

Included with the power glove is:
  • 1 set of Sensors. The sensors consist of 2 square looking sensors that slide in to fit in a plastic tube.

  •
  • The tube connects to a rectangle sensor, that detects how the buttons on the controller are working, and if the turbo is on or off.

The sensor plugs directly into your Nintendo, and the glove plugs into the sensor.

The glove itself does come in different sizes. On top of the glove on your wrist as you are looking at it. You have a rectangle looking controller of sorts.

  • The controller has 10 small circle buttons number 0 thru 9 a Prog and Enter Button. You have the up,down, left, right directional control, a center button, select, start, B, A.

  • Then like I mentioned before there are sensors on the fingers of the glove to detect movement.

How to Set the Power Glove Up

Place a game in your Nintendo NES and press Power. The glove beeps.

Pressing Power turns the glove on and off.
Hit or Press Start on the glove. Pressing Start or Select turns on the
LED panel.
You need to make a fist a few times so the glove gets to know the size of your fingers and thumb.

Point glove at the middle of the TV screen and press Center, so the glove can tell which way you move.

Pressing Center sets your starting point.

Finding your center position is easy with the LED Panel. When the glove is perfectly centered all the directional LED's will be off.

Moving the glove away from center is like pressing the NES direction pad. Your game character moves according to which way you move the glove away from the center. Look at which LED lights to see which way you move the glove.

You always want to stay within your center point. If you don't the power glove won't work properly, so staying in your center point is crucial.

Programs to Play Mike Tyson's Punch Out & Mario Brothers

A program is a special set of movements you can do with the glove. Like moving up and down with your hand or lifting or lowering fingers. These movements simulate a regular controller

Certain games have certain programs that are recommend for maximum gaming experience.

This program for MIKE TYSON'S PUNCH-OUT!! simulates real life boxing action. Keeping your moves close to your center position is critical to mastering these program moves.
NOTE: You must press START before you can use directional buttons on glove to make game selections.
To enter PROGRAM, press: (PROG) (7) (ENTR) (ENTR)

Like NES
Command: Glove Moves:

So as you can see you'll need a little practice to be good with the glove.

Use this program to play SUPER MARIO BROS. With the flick of a finger, you can speed-up or slow-down Mario to meet the challenge.
To enter PROGRAM, press: (PROG) (1) (2) (ENTR) (ENTR)
