Ninth Grade SAT Prep - it's never too early to start
If you're looking into ninth grade SAT prep, you're definitely a dedicated student. It's actually a good idea to start studying so that you can take the test early. You'll learn valuable information and be able to filter what you learn in the next four years through the principles you will learn taking the test.
Ninth grade SAT prep is not unlike any other program, it just caters to younger students who may still need some foundation work that they will receive in high school. Don't let that discourage you though, just remember if you hit a wall, pull back and let other things fall into place first - the idea is that you're getting ready now and by the time you're a senior, you'll be razor sharp!

Taking the SAT in the Ninth Grade
You're ahead of the game!
If your ninth grade SAT prep is going to end in the ninth grade with you taking the test, then congratulations! Taking the test early is the best way to get a feel for it. There are a lot of things that you probably have never considered:
I just want to you to be aware of those things. Ninth grade SAT prep is not going to get you where you need to go without other coursework, unless you're a genious. On the other hand, being prepared in advance is the best thing you can do for yourself. Take it now, and then when you take it again towards your senior year, you'll be an old pro.
- The test is long, and it's boring - if you've taken any standardized tests in school, you know how it feels to sit for hours and test
- In addition to the fact that it's boring, it's stressful - you want to make a good grade, obviously you're going to feel that pressure when you're sitting there taking the test
- You probably won't make a 2400 the first time around - the test is composed of material that students are expected to learn throughout high school. If you're taking this toward the end of your freshman year, you still have three years to go!

Knowing what to expect when you walk in makes life easy.
For the SAT I, there are going to be three sections. The math, critical reading, and writing sections all have unique characteristics you need to know about.- Math - This section has three parts, two 25 minute sections and on 20 minute. In each section you're presented with multiple choice questions, as well as grid in, in that order. Each subsection is increasing in difficulty - so the first multiple choice question is the easiest, and the last the hardest; the first grid in is the easiest, and the last the hardest. Also keep in mind that all questions are weighted equally - knock out the easy ones first
- Critical Reading - This section is again split in to three parts. This is what used to be known as the verbal section and you'll be presented with long passages which you must read to answer questions. Brush up on your skimming and scanning skills. You want to get a good idea what each one is about, see what questions you're asked, then come back and find your answers. The first two sections will be 25 minutes and the last will again be 20, so being quick and effective with your reading is important.
- Writing - Again, three sections: one essay and two multiple choice. For the essay, you'll be expected to deliver a well thought out article about a topic given to you. The best way to prepare is to write! Pick a topic and get used to having to write about things that you don't have any expertise about. The multiple choice sections require that you correct grammatical errors. There are lots of good materials on the internet that can help you with this.
Well there it is, the SAT I, section by section. Knowing what you're going to encounter will help reduce your anxiety on test day, and you'll also be more effective in your studying.

- Although I think that 9th grade is too early to start serious SAT prep, I still appreciate the information and reviews you provide here! As an SAT prep tutor and blogger, I certainly have a financial interest in getting the most students possible, but I can never bring myself to start tutoring someone so young. I just keep thinking that they should be running around, enjoying life, not getting obsessed with a monotonous, boring standardized test that's NOT even a great assessment of their academic or life potential. Instead, my advice has always been to start a regular vocabulary-building regimen with flashcards, and to add free-reading time (30 minutes a day is a good start) for books, news, and magazines that are in addition to any assigned school reading. I credit these two long-term strategies as being incredibly important to my eventual perfect 800 in the Verbal section of the SAT. Just my two cents! http://www.eSATPrepTips.com">www.eSATPrepTips.com
