Nipper the Dog - Albany, New York Landmark

Perched atop the Arnoff Moving Co Warehouse Building at 991 Broadway, Albany, New York is America's last remaining large RCA/Victor "Nipper" dog statue. Once the tallest building in Albany, Nipper sported an aircraft beacon on his right ear until it was no longer needed and replaced with a spotlight. Placed on top of the Arnoff building in 1954 (then known as RTA Corporation), "Nipper" oversees the passing traffic on Broadway and can be spotted by car from as far away as I-787. Be sure to visit Nipper in February each year to see him lit up all in red in support of the American Heart Association's "Nipper Goes Red" promotion. To see "Nipper" for yourself, travel south on I-787 to the Clinton Ave exit, south of I-90. At the end of the Clinton Ave Exit ramp turn right heading north on Broadway. "Nipper" is about a mile away on the right, just a few blocks past the Miss Albany Diner that was featured in the film "Ironweed" starring Jack Nicholson & Meryl Streep.
