I love these cookies. I'm a bit ashamed to say that I grew up hearing these called cow pies. LOL Having been a farm and ranch girl, it was easy to agree. But YUMMY! They are some of my favorite cookies.
  • Susan52 Sep 25, 2011 @ 3:51 pm | delete
It's obvious why you know them by that name! A cookie by any other name . . . is still delicious! (or something like that) LOL

  • SteveMartaindale Sep 11, 2011 @ 9:01 pm | delete
Susan, I enjoyed your "You're Only as Old as You Feel" lens and started looking around your others. These were my favorite cookies growing up, though Mother made them seldom. When I became an adult, I figured one benefit was being able to make them at any time. I would tell my wife I was making My Cookies. When our daughter came along, they became Daddy's Cookies. She called Friday night and her son was helping make what are now called Papa's Cookies. Thanks!
  • Sep 8, 2011 @ 3:51 pm | delete
I love this! My daughter loves to bake. I will definitely share this with her as we've never made these before! Thanks for the idea.
  • mamabush Sep 6, 2011 @ 10:02 pm | delete
These are my favorite cookies and they are so fast to make! I was reading your lens and they looked so good so I jumped up and made a quick batch. My recipe is a little different than yours, but yours looks like it makes a bigger batch, so I think I'll try it next time. When I was pregnant with my first son 11 years ago, I think I made these 2 or 3 times a week! :) I'm going to feature this recipe lens on my Totally Free Recipe Books lens. Love it! And I think your Zazzle products are genius!
  • JoyfulPamela Sep 3, 2011 @ 11:09 am | delete
My mouth is watering over this recipe! We will have to try this one right away!
  • jopalei Aug 31, 2011 @ 1:29 am | delete
I grew up with these - we called them Patty's cookies - a relative who gave the recipe to my mother before I was born. I still make them once in a while and they still turn out great. Nice Lens. If your sons are in the military as indicated, thank you, and thank them.
  • Frankster Aug 28, 2011 @ 5:51 pm | delete

    mmmm, oatmeal chocolate cookies!!!!!!!!
  • CanadianSmallBusinessStartup Aug 14, 2011 @ 12:40 pm | delete
I can remember making these cookies ever since I started learning to cook as a child (but without the peanut butter). What a great idea, peanut butter would be the perfect addition to these cookies! Try mixing and matching coconut / raisins / walnuts in place of the peanut butter for even more tasty variations.

Oh, and for anyone thinking of making this recipe, it is a GREAT RECIPE for the kids to help with, with some parental help on the stove of course.
  • Karafine Aug 11, 2011 @ 6:20 pm | delete
Can't wait to try these! Perfect in the heat - Cookies with no hot oven!

I've got to try this. My kids love homemade cookies, but I hate baking them in the summer when it's 100 degrees outside and the A/C is running all the time inside. This is a great alternative!

These are so tasty, and I don't mind if they come out a little too thin or too thick, I eat them anyway. My niece makes them now and at Easter, she formed them into nest shapes and put 3 jelly beans in the nest. Cute.

These are crazy good cookies. They have a distinct fudge flavor that makes me keep eating more and even though I don't have a sweet tooth normally, when my honey makes them I'm a tremendous pig. Heh, when I saw Susan had a lens on them I had to read it.

Great lens, Susan. You definitely got my sweet tooth rockin'.

Can someone tell me how many cookies this recipe makes? Thank you
  • Susan52 Dec 13, 2010 @ 7:48 am | delete
Hi Melissa. When I make this recipe, I get about three dozen medium-sized cookies. Of course it depends on how much you drop from the spoon when you're "plopping" them onto the waxed paper. It's fine to make them a bit smaller or bigger. Hope that helps!
  • Tipi Dec 8, 2010 @ 11:09 am | delete
I now know the three secret's to "Caroline's Cookies"! I've had them and love them but have never made them..it seems they are like a good energy cookie with the oatmeal and peanut butter along with the cocoa. I love that you mentioned that they travel well to Iraq and other troop deployments, I'll just have to lensroll to my Support Out Troops and Veterans lens.
  • JDWheeler Dec 4, 2010 @ 1:08 am | delete

I love no bake chocolate oatmeal cookies and made them just this weekend for guests staying in our rental cabin. My recipe is just a little different, calling for butter and boiling for 2 minutes. I love the ease of no bake cookies, especially during the summer.

I've always had to bake cookies. It feels weird skipping that step, but it would save time. The ingredients are going on my weekly shopping list.

This is the recipe I was searching for - I've made these before, but somehow lost track of it. Thanks for helping me out!

My interest was piqued by the title 'no bake' as I hadn't thought of cookies not needing to be popped into the oven. These definitely sound worth trying. I'll let you know when I try it.

I had never heard of these until i met my husband. So we got the recipe from his mom and I made them. And I loved them. But I always lost the recipe and would have to call my mother in law to get it. LOL
Now I can just make this my favorite lens and have it always.

my grand daughters love to bake and this will be the perfect thing! They get annoyed having to wait on the baking part! And I have 2 boxes of oats waiting to be opened anyway!
