No Children Allowed Movement
My personal thoughts on the new "No Children Allowed Movement". I read this article on yahoo the other day and it got my blood boiling. Not only the article, but several pages of posts literally blaming parent's for "Bad Parenting."
Punishment
Now with our children growing up out of control; businesses are wanting to limit or ban against children who don't listen. However, they aren't just banning the one's who are loud, out of control, or obnoxious - they are banning all of them in general.
Parents as Consumers
When did we start generalizing our children? When did we, the consumers start allowing businesses to tell us what to do or not do? Parents as Consumers spend more money on shopping trips, going to the movies, staying in a hotel, buying plane tickets, or going to a restaurant then a single person or a couple without children. Now don't get me wrong; Parent's should be allowed to have a night out without the children in tow, but that decision should be left up to them, not a business. As a parent & consumer, I would be more interested to know what Businesses are doing this so called "No Children Allowed Movement" so I could spend my hard earned money in Businesses whom appreciate people with children. I would also be interested in a list of Businesses who believe in this new movement so that I can spread the word to all my friends', family, and even total strangers.
This "No Children Allowed Movement" is expanding quicking from Restaurants, to hotels, to movie theaters, to airplanes, and now even grocery stores. Grocery stores are proposing childless shopping hours. Again, I have a problem with this situation, because not everyone can just drop their children off at daycare to go grocery shopping for food. For one, daycare is already expensive enough as is. The second point is not all Daycare's are open twenty four hours a day. And before someone says "Leave the with Family" - What if they don't have family or if they live to far away?
What are we as consumers & or as parents going to do about this kind of discrimination? What are your thoughts & or suggestions?
This is an open discussion on your thoughts related to this article.

- I think its great that some places are child free. Lots of parents just let their kids do whatever they want, and we got to accept it. You can't ban kids from too many places, but it would be nice to have an option. Sometimes the parents of kids are more annoying then the kids. i was in a restaurant once, with two parents and two kids at the next table. The kids were barely doing anything, but the parents were talking down to their kids in a nasty way. I felt like telling the parents to shut up.

- Of course it's bad parenting which is responsible for badly behaved children and it's bad parents who try to blame others for their own lack of control over their spoilt brats.

- Child bans have been around forever in restaurants. Owners just didn't have to be so blatant about it in the past. It was the unwritten law that dinner in a nice place was adults only, and if you EVER were going to bring a child to a white table cloth restaurant it was on Sunday for an afternoon meal. You tutored your child way before the event and they were wearing their Sunday finest. They were expected to sit quietly, no coloring books or other paraphernalia and talk when spoken too. Pretty much the youngest child you'd see even on a Sunday was a 7 or 8 year old.
You didn't have to worry about throwing out noisy children because the parents would swoop down the minute there was any noise at all. They knew that type of behavior wouldn't be tolerated, and they also knew they were lucky to be able to bring their children to a nice restaurant at all.
These days parents think it's ok to bring the baby and pull out a boob in a $100 a plate restaurant. This is why restaurants are starting to ban kids. Enough is enough. Adults should be able to have a nice dinner on "date night". My parents did!

- I seek out places like this so that I can support them and spend my money there. Most public accommodations that restrict children make more money after they do so than they did before any ban. I support everyone voting with their pocketbooks. If this offends you then don't patronize those places. However, you should realize that there is a large market for such places, and they are not going away. In fact fewer and fewer people are having children, so if anything demand for childfree places to shop and eat is growing.

- Everyone has a right to their opinion and your's is no different than anyone else's. However, I do have children (love each and everyone of them) & they know how to act in a store. I have already stated that I will not spend my money in places that discriminate against people with children.
Thankfully, in Kansas, I don't have to worry about places discriminating against those of us who have children. Thanks for your comment.
