Where To Get A Mobile Phone Contract Even With Bad Credit History

Yes, I have a bad credit history. If you're reading this page, then maybe you have too. I'm not going to bore you with details of why my credit rating is poor, but I will explain where you can get approved for a mobile phone contract even if you have a poor credit history.

There isn't a lot of information on the internet about where to get bad credit mobile phone contracts, so I thought I would share my experiences of what I have found. Hope you find it useful :)

Where Do I Start?

When it comes to getting a mobile phone contract with bad credit history, you have two options:

1) No Credit Check Mobile Phone Contracts
If you are declined a contract phone having failed a credit check, then opting for a no credit check contract seems the obvious choice. From my research, there are only a handful of companies that offer mobile phones without a credit check, but they do exist.

2) SIM Card Only Contracts
SIM card only contracts come without a free mobile phone, and as a result are much easier to be approved. There is still a credit check on application, but the credit scoring is much lower compared with a standard contract with free handset.

Listed below are companies who supply these types of contracts.

BluePhone

BluePhone are a relatively new company and offer mobile phone contracts which do not require a credit check.

They offer a number of tariffs, with calls and texts rates being very competitive compared to other networks such as Vodaphone or 02. Line rental starts at only £8 per month with calls at 8p per minute.

The disadvantage is that BluePhone tariffs do not come with a lot of free minutes or texts like that of major networks. The main advantage is obvious - no credit checks are required.

Finance My Mobile

Finance My Mobile will provide you finance to buy one of their phones without the need for a credit check. You pay an initial deposit of 10% of the handset price and then make repayments every week until your loan is paid off.

The main disadvantage is that they are very costly. If you wanted to buy a Sony Ericsson K800i, this is what you would pay:

Cash Price - £429.89
Deposit - £49.89
Amount of Credit - £380.00
Number of Weeks - 30
Weekly Payments - £16.63

Total Amount Payable - £498.90

The total amount you pay is astonishing. This particular handset can be purchased brand new in high street stores for as little as £70!

Everything Financial

No credit checks

Photobucket
Everything Financial offer a wide range of products including loans, car finance, mortgages as well as mobile phones.

Whilst they do not offer phone contracts, they provide you with finance to purchase their range of SIM free handsets. No checks are required to apply. You are required to pay a deposit of 12% and the phone is delivered to your door within 48 hours. You then make repayments spread over 9 months.

SIM Card Only Contracts

SIM only contracts are available from all the UK networks such as T Mobile, Orange, Vodafone and O2. Although a credit check is still required, it is much easier to be approved than if you were to apply for a contract with free handset.

Operating on a 30 day rolling contract instead of the usual 12 or 18 months, you also get more free minutes and texts than you would do with a normal pay monthy contract.

There are a range of sIm only tariffs to choose from and I recommend you visit a SIM comparison site to compare and find the best tariff for you.

www.simmonthly.co.uk is a recommend site.

Best UK Network For People With Bad Credit

Low credit score approval

T-Mobile have been known to look sympathetically to those with bad credit history. It has been discussed in several forums, that it is best to apply directly on their website for the best possible chance of passing their checks.

T Mobile have recently introduced the SOLO Lite tariff which is designed specifically for people with bad credit history. If you fail their initial creit checks, you will be offered the SOLO lite tariff which comes with a number of restrictions for the first 3 months (no international calls, no picture messages, no internet access). Once you have paid 3 months bills, these restrictions will then be lifted. Since you will have access to everyday tariffs, the restrictions are quite reasonable.

Everyone has heard of T Mobile and you will have the benefit of dealing with one of the biggest mobile phone companies both in the UK and USA.

T-Mobile are higly recommended if you are struggling with bad credit and want a contract phone. Apply online at their website and you may be pleasantly surprised by their decision.

What Other Choices Do I Have Then?

When you apply for a mobile phone contract, whether you are accepted or not is determined by your credit score. In the UK, a person's score is determined by the number of late payments, defaults or CCJs, etc.

However, phone companies often operate on different scores for approval. Some companies have a high credit score approval rate which require you to have an exceptional history, whilst others have a lower approval rate and are more sympathetic.

So if one company doesn't accept you it is possible that you will get accepted elsewhere. You are likely to be asked for an upfront deposit, but you will have access to standard phone contracts.

Badcreditmobiles.com is a new website which lists a number of retailers who can help provide a mobile phone contract to people with bad credit history.

Check Your Credit Report For Free

It may come to a surprise to you that most people in the UK are not aware of their credit score. When you consider the number of financial aspects of your life which are affected by your credit score, your score should be as memorable to you as your own phone number.

Lets face it, the main reason why you are reading this page, is because you suffering from credit problems and have found it difficult in obtaining a mobile phone contract. So if you have been turned down in the past, wouldn't it be a good idea to know why?

Your credit report is not only a record of your personal financial history, but is the key to your financial future, so it is important that it is kept up to date. If you check your report regularly, you can greatly improve your chances of being accepted for a mobile phone, loan or mortgage etc and protect yourself against identity fraud.

There are many places where you can get an instant copy of your report and this will usually cost a small fee. However, there are a small number of companies who can give you an instant report for free.
