I do not live in a climate for flowering annals. It is to dry most of the time. I am working all the time on plants that will work. So the look of my backyard is always changing. I few years ago we add some palms and I am working succulents in around them.
  • seedplanter Sep 16, 2011 @ 1:22 pm | delete
Succulents are beautiful! We have a few Chicks & Hens growing in our yard and they are very easy to grow. It must be fun for you to see constant change in your garden. That's half the fun - right?

Gardening is good for the muscles and good for the soul. I find peace while puttering with my plants.

No fooling, this is a wonderful lens. I'm in your neighborhood for only today and I'm leaving a blessing from the Angel of Farmyard Animals.

Nice! You've inspired me to do some digging in my own backyard. Unfortunately, I'm about 60 miles from the Pacific Ocean, so the idea of a beach isn't in the story. But I still want to create a "tropical-style" garden with bananas (I have seen them growing in my town), and cycad palms and with a koi pond. And surrounded by other tropical-style plants-- bromiliads, orchids, and hibiscus. :-) Congrats on a great lens!

Oh, what a lovely visit I've had ... our backyard is quite important to us. My home office is positioned so that I have a pretty good view of the backyard throughout the day ... I find it relaxing.

Great lens and have lensrolled you on my Cornish Garden lens. It's so great to transform something and nothing better than a garden/yard. I quite like the 'chaotic approach.

I love your lens and your fabulous pictures! Gardening is always an adventure especially with dogs! Although she is pretty good now, it took quite a while to train our dog to stay out of the garden. However, the first sign of a raccoon, squirrel or barking dog and I have a few more flattened flowers!
  • Stazjia Jun 7, 2009 @ 6:09 am | delete
Fabulous lens. I remember when we first moved into a house with a so-called garden - a patch of weeds was a better description - and I made a garden from scratch out of it with no previous experience. I can remember getting the same thrills as you describe from seeing flowers I've planted grow and then come back the following year. 5* and lensrolled.
  • Ramkitten Jun 5, 2009 @ 3:42 pm | delete
Love it! Great photos, too! I'm lensrolling this to A Home Remodel: From Worn Out, Drab And Cold To Fresh And Cozy. We totally made over our backyard too, so I can relate to all that elbow grease you used! And I love the story you told about your inspiration for doing it in the first place. Made me look over at our own aging pooch and think ... *sigh*

Love your lens. We have a basset hound who obsessed with gekos and frogs. Therefore, my backyard is a trampled mess! I think we could be friends (it seems we have a lot in common), but I would be jealous of your yard!

Is there a group for 50-ish women on Squidoo?

I am totally in awe! I kept checking your links on this page, and was going to comment on them by saying you're referring an outstanding resource, them, at the bottom of the page I find out it's YOU! I'd 'park my shovel' next to your's any day and join you in the fun job of photographing our 'beauties'. Now I gotta learn how you did those images :) as they're so beautiful, I thought you painted them. Really enjoyed your story on this lens, coming from a 50 lady, I know exactly what you mean, as I spent 7 hours in my flowerbeds yesterday.....and am dearly paying for it today.

Great lens! Sorry about Sadie. I know how hard it can be... We just lost our Queensland Heeler to cancer earlier this year. We had her for 12 years! I think your lens is perfect for my group Backyard Habitat. Thanks for submitting it!
