Duplicate Content Has No Penalty, Says Google

Ranked #36,547 in Internet, #1,101,256 overall

New Video Released by Google

The debate about whether or not duplicate content is penalized by Google has been raging for years -- even though Google has been denying it for years.

Well, just 6 days ago, a geeky Google software engineer named Greg Grothaus posted a video that hopefully will end the myth once and for all. The video is a recap of a talk given by Greg at the Search Engine Strategies San Jose conference last month.

I am going to show you the video. I will also reproduce the slide show from the video, for those of you who, like myself, are more comfortable with reading about something, rather than watching it. And for a quick digest and review of the video, check out my blog, entitled Duplicate Content.

Here are the slides from the video above.

I know -- they go so fast, you can hardly read them. But don't despair ... You can watch them at your own pace by clicking "Pause" above the slide, then click an Arrow to go back or forward.

Conclusion

I hope that this video finally settles the spurious "Duplicate Content Penalty" issue.

The short message seems to be: If you're not a spammer, don't worry about duplicate content -- but it would help if you tell Google which of your pages you want indexed.
