No Phenoxyethanol

Skin care

There are quite a few companies that hype their skin care products as being natural, yet, still use ingredients, like Phenoxyethanol that aren't natural in any way.

Phenoxyethanol is actually considered suspect enough to have been banned in Europe. Even the US FDA (The United States Food & Drug Administration), issued this statement about it:

"Phenoxyethanol is a preservative that is primarily used in cosmetics and medications. It also can depress the central nervous system and may cause vomiting and diarrhoea".

Remember, the skin is our largest organ, so we chose NOT to have Phenoxyethanol in Caithy Premium Skincare Range, as the risks it presents to the skin and the body as a whole are not worth it in our opinion.

Any skin care product that uses Phenoxyethanol shouldn't be allowed to label itself as natural because its misleading to consumers, and often, getting them to pay more for a substandard product that isn't even advertising with honesty.

Luckily, you'll never find Phenoxyethanol, or any other harmful preservative/ingredients in Caithy's Premium Skin care products. Instead, we use Ecocert & COSMOS (the new EU organic standard) approved preservative ( the only one preservative approved to use in Organic cosmetics) that not only maintain the integrity of our products over time, but also provides improved collagen synthesis and other benefits for the skin as well!

No Paraben

Skin Care

Parabens are chemicals that many people aren't aware of - although many of us use them regularly. Para-hydroxybenzoic acid, butyl, propyl and ethyl parabens, are chemical compounds of Parabens. Parabens are found in a variety of everyday products - cosmetics, face cream, shaving gels, shampoo and toothpaste.

Tests have indicated that parabens have caused an increase in oestrogen, however the biggest area of concern is the effect of parabens on breast cancer. Various studies have found traces of parabens in women with breast cancer.

Commonly used Propyl-paraben is a strong allergen associated with various health disorders such as asthma, endocrine disruptor and research shows it decreases sperm production. This is currently under review for re-evaluation by the FDA.

And when there are safe alternatives available, I would rather not take the chance that I or our future generations develop strange reproductive problems from using a product that would have been avoided in the first place. So be sure to buy only paraben free cosmetics, shampoos, and skin care products. You're better off avoiding parabens altogether whenever possible.

We believe that you, our customer, have the right to shop what you believe and so we research along with leading researchers & create safe and effective cosmetic products without the use of parabens.

No Mineral Oils

Natural Skincare

Mineral oil is a common petroleum derivative by product of refining crude oil petrochemicals. Mineral Oil contains neurotoxins which damage the nervous system. You put the same oil in your car engine as well!! Mineral oil has absolutely no nutritional value. It is a known carcinogen (cancer causing agent) and still being used in cosmetic industry in shampoos, baby oils, lip gloss, lotions and creams.

An unbiased study released during 2001 & 2002 by CPC & JAMA , contained the following: "Cancer and health experts just concluded reviews that indicate mainstream cosmetics and personal hygiene products including lotions, soaps and shampoos, pose the highest risk exposures to the general public. This risk is higher than smoking."

"In a study of environmental toxins found in the blood and urine, there were surprisingly high amounts of toxic chemicals found in everyday products like perfume, soaps and cosmetics in the people tested."

Researches also analysed that mineral oil in cosmetics and moisturizers as the number two cause of ageing. The first being direct exposure to the sun. This results is premature aging and increased health risks.

You may not be able to find mineral oil on your label because it has hundreds of different names. This refined petroleum product forms a film on the surface of your skin that cannot be absorbed. It acts like a wrapping foil on your face which blocks the pores and the skin's natural respiration. Mineral oil may also cause allergic reactions and dryness. It traps dirt and bacteria and blocks the absorption of vitamins/minerals/botanicals that may be in a product.

Mineral oil also slows the rate of cell reproduction, which damages collagen and regeneration of fresh tissues which leads to fine lines and wrinkles.

Here is a list of the other names for mineral oil: Synonyms: Paraffin oil; Heat-treating oil; Hydraulic oil; Cable oil; Lubricating oil; mineral oil mist; Paraffin oils; Mineral oil hydrocarbon solvent (petroleum); Mineral oil (saturated paraffin oil); liquid paraffin; white mineral oil; hydrocarbon oils; Petroleum hydrocarbons; jute batching oil; white oil; Mineral Seal Oil; Electrical Insulating Oil; MINERAL (MINERAL OIL).

No Hydroquinone

Skin whitening Cream

Hydroquinone, in the past, was the standard ingredient for skin lightening treatments. Until recently, it was thought to be the safest and most effective treatment for hyperpigmentation, including age spots, melasma, sun damage and other discolorations. However, new research suggests that there may be serious side effects associated with long term use of synthetic hydroquinone. Just recently the FDA also announced its plans to possibly remove hydroquinone based products from store shelves and limit its use to only prescription based medications. Consequently, many manufacturers have begun to produce natural alternatives which mimic the skin lightening properties of hydroquinone.

Skin lighteners have come a long way in the past few years. With all the available information on the internet, consumers can now educate themselves about the skin bleaching products they buy.
