No More Acne

The psychological harm acne or Zits causes it's many sufferers should not be underestimated; but there are now many treatments available which can help the condition so it is more bearable. Research into the causes, and possible treatments, for the condition is ongoing; recent medical advancements are, in fact, proving to be very effective in treating this condition. We can classify acne skin care products into 3 broad categories:

* Over-the-counter: Preventative
* Drugstore: Relief treatment
* Prescription only treatments

Probably the largest part of the skin care market is products designed to clean the skin and inhibit the formation of acne; this sector deals with skin creams, lotions and cleansers that can help stop the problem. Many people these days use products like this to maintain their skin; often this is irrespective of whether or not there is a problem condition. There are acne skin care products that are more specialized in there approach; they clean out the pores to help stop sebum or oil which can clog these areas. These skin care products are designed to prevent this from happening.

General skin care treatments also include special exfoliation products like skin peels; these are easily obtainable in any drug store. The peels clean the skin by removing all surface pollution and dead skin cells which can block the pores. The growth of the skin care market has allowed even more specialized acne skin care products to be available without the need to visit the doctor. Most of these creams etc. are based on benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid, both of which are the enemies of bacteria (and hence acne); these ingredients are used to remove the additional oil in the pores of the skin.

Dermatologists recommend any product should have low concentrations of the active ingredient benzoyl peroxide (no more than 5.5 parts per hundred) if there is an adverse reaction; if a reaction occurs, a cleaner or cream containing alpha hydroxy acid should be safe. It is not always possible to find an acne skin care product that works first time; however, if nothing you try seems to work, you should contact a dermatologist. If you do need to see your doctor or skin care specialist then he may give you a prescription for antibiotics or special ointments.

Your dermatologist may suggest a minor surgical procedure to remove the contents of pustules; however, sufferers are warned never to attempt this as it could lead to serious skin problems. Your doctor may even suggest a course of hormone therapy as a skin care treatment; this type of skin care treatment has been very effective in many cases. There is no longer any reason to despair if you have this skin complaint or are prone to its effects.
