Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" performed by Nodame and the S Orchestra
This song is also Nodame Cantabile's end credits theme
One of the show's highlight performances, this clip shows the S Orchestra performing Rhapsody in Blue in their own unique style. This happens in episode 5 of the Jdrama when Chiaki is tapped to play with A Orchestra. Feeling abandoned, concertmaster Mine - always the rocker - takes the reigns and declares a "different" interpretation of the Gershwin piece.
*In case you're wondering where Nodame is, she's the one playing a pianika inside the cute and silly Mongoose costume.
Nodame Cantabile Music
The people responsible for the Nodame Cantabile Jdrama OST and score
Daisuke Mogi was the musical director for Nodame Cantabile and all the episodes feature original music by Takayuki Hattori along with several classical music pieces. The orchestral music was performed by the Nodame Orchestra which consisted of members who were specially selected for the live-action drama with professional support from the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra.
The Orchestra was conducted by James DePriest, Permanent Conductor of the Tokyo Metropolitan Orchestra. He would later have his name and likeness used in the Nodame storyline as the musical director of the fictional Roux-Marlet Orchestra.
The opening theme for both the drama series and special was the First movement ("Andante Cantabile") from Beethoven's Symphony No. 7, and the ending theme was Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue, both performed by the Nodame Orchestra conducted by Toshiaki Umeda.

Listen to "Onara Taisou" by Nodame
In English, Onara Taisou means "Fart Exercise"
In this clip, Nodame performs her very own composition Onara Taisou (which translates to "Fart Exercise" in English). She agrees to take intensive piano lessons with professor Kouzou Etoh on the condition that he dances to the song while she plays it on the piano. Watch it, it's hilarious!
Buy the recording of Onara Taiso by Juri Ueno (aka Nodame in the series)
Japanese actress Juri Ueno (who plays Megumi Noda or Nodame in the Jdrama) made her "singing debut" with the release of the single "Onara Taisou." The song became a hit after it came out in episode 7 of the Nodame Cantabile drama series.

Nodame Cantabile, the live action drama series. is an adaptation of a comic by Japanese manga artist Tomoko Ninomiya. Since the manga hasn't been completed when the live action drama first aired on Japan's Fuji TV in 2006, the TV series adaptation only had 11 episodes.
A four-hour sequel depicting further events in the manga after Chiaki & Nodame move to Paris titled Nodame Cantabile New Year's Special in Europe was broadcast in January 2008.

Following events in the manga, the live drama saga culminated in a two-part movie, Nodame Cantabile: The Final Score released in December 2009 (Part 1) and April 2010 (Part 2).
The original manga is based on a real person, also named Megumi Noda, who was a music college student at the time of the comic's publication and is now a piano teacher in Fukuoka.

The Nodame Cantabile - Shinobu Yaguchi Movie Connection
A bit of trivia for all of you Nodame Cantabile fans!

In 2001, Nodame Cantabile cast members veteran actor Naoto Takenaka (Maestro Stresseman) and a relatively unknown Tamaki Hiroshi (Chiaki) appeared together in a Shinobu Naguchi film called Waterboys. Three years later, Takenaka was cast together with newcomer Juri Ueno (Nodame) in another Naguchi film titled Swing Girls. Both films reaped awards and helped launch the careers of Nodame Cantabile's two leads.
