The Final Movement in the Nodame Cantabile J-drama Series
Our peek into Nodame and Chiaki's European musical journey ends with the two-part Nodame Cantabile Movie, The Final Score (also known as The Final Movement).
The movie picks up where the Nodame Cantabile Shinshun Special in Europe left off. Nodame's piano recital was a success but it seems that her beloved Chiaki-senpai, now a full-fledged conductor, is advancing in his music career by leaps and bounds and so she struggles to catch up with him. They face many challenges along the way and as a result, their budding relationship suffers.
Nodame Cantabile is based on a manga by Tomoko Ninomiya and the movie covers the final chapters of the comic book series. Japanese actors Juri Ueno and Tamaki Hiroshi reprise their roles as Nodame and Chiaki respectively.

Nodame Cantabile - The Final Score: Synopsis
A brief summary of the four-hour, two-part movie.
The Nodame Cantabile - The Final Movement movie covers the last chapters of Nodame and Chiaki's musical journey in Europe. Part 1 was screened in Japan theaters in December 19, 2009 and Part 2 was screened in April 17, 2010.

Part 1: After winning the Platini International Conductors' Competition, Chiaki (Tamaki Hiroshi) is appointed as the permanent conductor of the Roux-Marlet Orchestra in Paris. He decides to do some covert scouting before taking over and is shocked by their lack of motivation. On the other hand, Nodame (Juri Ueno) and her fellow Paris Conservatoire students Frank (Eiji Wentz), Tanya (Becky) and Kuroki (Seiji Fukushi) practice diligently in preparation for their final exams. Chiaki would call on Nodame to fill in for some performances by the Roux-Marlet Orchestra. At one important performance, Nodame was supposed to play the harpsichord but famous pianist Rui Son (Yu Yamada) steps in and plays the concerto with Chiaki instead, to Nodame's utter dismay. The future of Nodame and Chiaki's relationship grows even bleaker when he decides to move out of the apartment to focus more on his career.

Part 2: As Chiaki forges ahead with his stint as resident conductor of the Roux-Marlet Orchestra, the distance between him and Nodame grows as he moves to a new place to concentrate on his music, leaving her behind. The increasing contrast between Chiaki's rapid ascent to new heights in his career and Nodame's continual struggle for progress as a "mere" Conservatoire student only makes the strain in their relationship even more apparent. With their romance fraying at the seams even as it is getting more intimate, it takes a crisis for them to reevaluate what is most important, and music to realize what they mean to each other.

Nodame Cantabile, the live action drama series. is an adaptation of a comic by Japanese manga artist Tomoko Ninomiya. Since the manga hasn't been completed when the live action drama first aired on Japan's Fuji TV in 2006, the TV series adaptation only had 11 episodes.
A four-hour sequel depicting further events in the manga after Chiaki & Nodame move to Paris titled Nodame Cantabile New Year's Special in Europe was broadcast in January 2008.

Following events in the manga, the live drama saga culminated in a two-part movie, Nodame Cantabile: The Final Score released in December 2009 (Part 1) and April 2010 (Part 2).
The original manga is based on a real person, also named Megumi Noda, who was a music college student at the time of the comic's publication and is now a piano teacher in Fukuoka.

Three years later, Takenaka was cast together with newcomer Juri Ueno (Nodame) in another Naguchi film titled Swing Girls.
