NoF's Video Game and Geeky Stuff PANTS PARTY

Ranked #2,317 in Games, #90,162 overall

Welcome to the NoF PANTS PARTY for Geeks and Gamers!

What is an NoF PANTS PARTY, you ask? Well, it's a fun event where interesting folks get together to play games, debate important issues, or just hang out.. It is a requirement that you wear interesting pants or bottoms. Some may tell you that pants are optional but, in an effort to keep this lens family-friendly, we can neither encourage nor discourage such initiatives (but it's a free country so do as you like)!

This site is a portal for the growing NoF Network, often referred to as RoNoF (Realm of NoF), which started with our humble little N-o-F.com, circa 1999. The history of NoF, better known as "Nawph" or "Nipples of Fate", goes as far back as 1993 but we'll discuss that in more detail later on...

Who or WHAT is NoF?

The Nipples of Fate In A Nutshell

Absolut NipplyBefore you jump into the video demonstrating one of many iterations of NoF spirit, let's start by defining NoF as the "Nipples of Fate", a gaming clan that is better described as a brotherhood or social gaming clan. With that description in mind, we're not talking merely about social games as in FaceBook apps or parlor games, though those are GREAT. As a social gaming clan, we pride ourselves on building life-long bonds and sharing mutual experiences with possibly one of the most diverse groups of gamers and geeks on all of the Internet.

We are the Nipples of Fate. N-o-F for short. "Nawph" for those that prefer phonetic translations over pesky acronyms.

Currently, we have two major web sites, along with several affiliated and member-ran web sites. Here they are for quick reference:

* http://www.n-o-f.com
* http://www.n-o-f.net

The ranks of NoF currently consists of people from around the world and across various concentrations. We have game developers, graphic designers, webmasters, marketing mavens, pro gamers, mechanical engineers, handymen, and all sorts of talented folks. In a sense, being nipply is about loving life and being willing to learn new things at every turn. To do so, you need to be humbled by the fact that no one knows it all.

With over a decade of experience and a strong core of loyal members, NoF has built up a strong foundation built on our core principles, traditions, and beliefs. We try to instill a sense of hope and purpose in all our members. Anyone that joins NoF should know that we are here for our fellows but building a bond is a mutual endeavor. Forging the bonds of family is an ideal, along with many other ongoing goals, so it takes a concerted effort.

Like any family, we have our rambunctious members and black sheep. Again, we make no apologies for who we are. We practice a "come as you are" policy while, at the same time, trying to bring out the best in all Nips. It's been a fun adventure and we're proud of what we've done collectively. We hope to make more friends throughout the years and do the little things that really matter in the grand scheme of things.

Believe me, we can go on quite a bit about who we are, what we are, and why we are doing this all (and what exactly it is that we do) but it's best you visit our web sites and other NoF portals if you enjoy such deep details (don't get Yogi started - he's long-winded as heck)!

NoF Makes No Excuses

While we cater to all geek types and practice a "come as you are" open door policy, we do not make any excuses for who we are and how we do things. Diversity is the spice of life and we embrace it. As Dino Dogan of Triberr says, "We went Spartan for a reason." The same applies for the Nipples of Fate.

As such, if you are easily offended, check out one of my other more family-friendly lenses. The gamer-geek culture can be a bit racy at times. We have a potty filter for the most part but t

Mass Effect - TOO Seksy?

We in NoF usually go for online multiplayer games only.. But we'll make an exception. *AHEM*

Miranda

Expect a more, ummm, intimate review of what makes the Mass Effect series so special to us video game geek types.. This will be featured either on DPO or Y3B, both of which are very special NoF portals. It'll more than likely be Duel Pass Online since we know our hardcore geeks there always enjoy more Anime and video game wimminz. ;o)

Some of these games may never see the light of day but we can still engage in wishful thinking!

Our list focuses more on XBox 360 and PC games (of course, the PC pwns all consoles) but feel free to add games on any platform. We promise we will not engage in any fanboy bashing and trolling! Let's keep things civil, fellow gamers.

NoF, Preserving the Last Bastions of Hope for Geeks and Gamers WORLDWIDE

For the uninitiated, the Nipples of Fate may seem to be a mere gaming clan but those in-the-know recognize our efforts to bring sanity back to this insane world. It's about having fun and enabling others to do the same.. We want to become the change we want to see in the world, especially in the video game industry. Really, something has to give and SOON!

The State of the Video Game Industry

The Grandfather of Gaming on Bringing Video Games Back to the "Good Old Days"

NoF has many old-school gamers so, inevitably, we often look back to yesteryear and wonder where things took a turn for the video game industry. Nolan Bushnell, Atari Founder and the often-touted "Grandfather of Video Gaming", has often said that the video game industry took a wrong turn in the mid-80s and never quite recovered the lost magic. A big reason for that is how video games today tend to ostracize large audiences rather than bringing digital entertainment to the masses.

Indeed. I know that I, for one, love a lot of today's games but few really go on to be very memorable.. Surely, it's much more than nostalgic spin and the expensive nature of the "hobby". The state of the video game industry right now is quite lamentable. Former big-name developers have disappeared or have been swallowed up by bigger labels. Video game projects are canceled or just tank. What gives?

We'll tackle this issue and others via blogs and Squidoo lens snippets but, for now, let's get a poll going!

Bite-Sized Video Game Reviews & Previews

All-you-can-eat video game geek indulgences, now in small bite-sized portions!

BrinkCrysis 2 - So far, I have skipped Halo Reach all together and Crysis 2 has filled the void for fast-paced, high-tech FPS action. Crysis 2 is a nice change for a genre that has seen many entries over the years. It takes getting used to but the concept of Nanosuits works very well. I like how Crysis 2 has built upon the now-common mechanics of persistent classes and unlockable customizations/perks.

Homefront - This game was supposed to be a Call of Duty killer. There's still lots of hype surrounding the online play. It's solid but the cheaters ruin it for everyone else. Hopefully THQ gets a fix on the situation and provides some free updates to-offset the feeling of being cheated that many of us have. The graphics look a bit dated as well but that's not a big deal in my book. Shortcomings aside, Homefront takes the best-of-breed technologies from Call of Duty and Battlefield to make a very engaging, massive battlefield. I plan to revisit this game and hope some of my friends jump on it.

Mortal Kombat - People always complain that video games have strayed from their origins, when games were a lot more fun. The creative minds behind the latest Mortal Kombat game listened to these concerns and created a game that is every bit as polished and cutting-edge as other games in this generation while taking the action back to the old school. I love this fighting game and it honors the Mortal Kombat name. The only issue here is that, sometimes, the challenge level forces you to cheese, which can get quite, errr, mundane.

Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 - Speaking of taking it back to the old school, MvC3 does just that by building upon a long-awaited franchise over a decade later. Anyone that loves comic books, Anime, Capcom games, eye candy, frantic action, and/or itense fighting has got to revisit this series. MvC3 sticks to the core mechanics that have always worked and kicks things up several notches - LITERALLY. My only complaint is that the mission mode in the game, like in Mortal Kombat "9", tends to get silly.. but it's good practice, nonetheless!

Brink - If there is ever to be a Call of Duty killer (or at least the best alternative), it's this game right here. At the time we are writing this, Call of Duty: Black Ops is somehow the best-selling console video game of all time. We reckon it has something to do with the deep customization and multitude of gameplay options. Brink offers just that plus elements of games like Team Fortress 2, Rainbow Six Vegas 2, Borderlands, and, for those of you that remember the game, Rainbow Six Shutdown. Bethesda Studios has yet to disappoint so I actually have high hopes for this one. Even the most jaded gamers should find something amongst Brink's many co-op and versus modes.

Dead Space 2

Survival horror, action-packed multiplayer, and FREE hugs!

Big John just wanted a hug...

Dead Space 2 is one of those games that you may miss if you think it's merely a survival horror game. I mean, yes, the single-player mode is AMAZING but the online multiplayer mode is no slouch either! It's quite satisfying switching roles and playing as the very necromorphs that terrorized you in this series. Alas, I wish I had more people to play this game with... Stingy bastids. Big John, I need a hug too.

Miranda Lawson from Mass Effect 2.. Again!

(Yeah, we don't mind her, either.)

Ms. Lawson thinks you should visit Y3B.

Did we mention that we LOVE the Mass Effect series? The hot wimminz is only part of it. Few games have such deep, immersive gameplay and character development that makes every detail of the story intimate or, better yet, YOURS. Personally, I play a female Shephard with a hard candy shell and a soft, chewy center.. She also happens to dig girls. *shrug*

(That reminds me: I really need to play ME2 "Arrival" but, before I do so, I need to romance a few more squad members and replay the ending sequence.. I don't want to give the Illusive Man the satisfaction of using me, though Garrus is welcome to do so. Wait.. That sounds kinda weird, doesn't it? I am role-playing - REALLY!!)

Well, since everyone seems to be a bit "camera shy", I'll go ahead and be the first to comment.. I got a video game mini-review up on http://www.squidoo.com/the-mundane-chatter-podcast and it should be a great read. It's about Mortal Kombat and the recent pseudo-reboot.. I really like the new direction A LOT!

In a few words, Mortal Kombat is a great game that brings the series back to the old-school, except with lots of polish and replay options. The story mode is quite engaging and I actually completed it in one sitting. It was long and very fulfilling. To have me sit down for hours at a time with ANY game says a lot since I don't do that often these days (I'm not the youngster I once was, after all).

I was disappointed by how some characters were nerfed. Sub-Zero is so slow he is almost unplayable and Raiden is basically a chump and hardly god-like. Ultimately, beating the bosses in the game means spamming your special moves or cheesing, which makes for sore thumbs and quite a bit of frustration. All shortcomings considered, it's a game worth checking out, especially if you love a good fighter.

Mortal Kombat, much like Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, has marked a vital milestone in the video game industry. I hope the industry is taking notes because, really, quite a bit of change is needed...
