No Frizz by Living Proof Adds Shampoo, Condtitoner and Leave-in Conditioner to their Product Line

Ranked #38,333 in Healthy Living, #491,574 overall

A scientific breakthrough to tame frizzy hair. The only downside is the price.

This lens is written to introduce a new product that has helped me tame my unruly hair, and I want to pass on the news. The new product, called No Frizz has been developed by scientists at MIT to fight frizz and put an end to "bad hair" days for the hair challenged amoung us. They have created a line of products that include a cream treatment, a shampoo and a conditioner.

The newest of the products, the shampoo,,conditioner and a leave-in conditioner are available on a limited basis right now. As an existing customer I was offered an opportunity to buy them before they are available to the general public.

The cost is $24.00 each for an 8 oz. bottle of shampoo and 8 oz. conditioner. The leave in conditioner is $24.00 for 4 ounces. That is four times the cost of my normal brand. Is it worth the money? The jury is still out on that question. I've had them a week. The first couple of days I tried the shampoo and followed with the condtioner as instructed. It dried my hair out. The last couple of days I've used my normal moisturizing shampoo, and then the No Frizz conditioner. That seems to be working better.

The results of the products are not the miracle I'd hoped for, but a more modest improvement. I would say my hair does look better, but not wonderful.

My hope was that I could use the shampoo and conditioner and then skip the cream, because it's so expensive, but that hasn't worked. I still need the cream.

I read about No Frizz in Allure Magazine, in an article about "breakthrough" beauty products, and couldn't wait to try it. At that time the only the cream products were available.

A word of warning : it's an expensive solution to fight the frizz. A 4 ounce bottle runs $24.00 plus tax, or shipping if you order online, and only lasts about a month. And that's using it sparingly, although every day. The company suggests thoroughly saturating your hair with the product, but on my medium length hair, which I wash almost daily, it would just simply cost too much.

One other disadvantage is the inconvenience in purchasing the items. They are available only online, through QVC or at Sephora. No running to the drugstore, or Target (my favorite) to pick up a bottle of shampoo. In my town, there is only one Sephora, a half hour away in a congested mall that's a nightmare to get to. So shopping for the items becomes a problem.

As we've heard before, new technologhy costs money. It's true. And this is an entirely new technology.

The new technology employs molecules called polyfluoroesters. And that's important, because this is the first new technology to fight frizz in over 30 years, and because it uses something besides silicone based materials.

If you're like me, you've tried every "new" hair product and frizz fighter on the market, only to realize that no matter what the price tag or the packaging, the new "miracle" was only a new spin on the same old ingredient--silicone.

Science to the Rescue

Silicone products have never worked for me. They have dried my hair out, and weighed it down. Magically, my hair has been able to be frizzy and flat to my head at the same time. My bathroom is overrun with useless sprays, creams and potions that never lived up to their promise. Clever marketers lured me in over and over again, took my money and left me disappointed and dishelved.

Thankfully, a group of sceintists at MIT have decided to use their talents to solve beauty dilemas and formed a company called Living Proof. Their debut product is a line of frizz fighting products called "No Frizz."

While most of us don't care how it works, as long as it works, it is interesting to learn a little bit about the composition of the product. It is especially reassuring that it does not contain silicones. Instead, the frizz fighter is a polyfluoroester molecule. This smaller molecule coats hair more evenly, and binds to hair more tightly, than silicone.

The photo above shows a rough and damaged hair cuticle. The birthplace of frizz. No Frizz acts as a sort of spackling to fill in and smooth the cuticle. That is what "good haired" people have. Smooth, solid cuticles. That is what we want too.

The company and the current users advise that more is more in this case. The more product you use, and the more often you use it, the more effective it is.

Some fringe benefits accompany the new technology. Coated with the new materials, hair becomes more dirt repellent, and color becomes more vibrant.

The Products

There are currently six different formulas to choose from, based on the type of hair you have: thin, medium or coarse, and the type of curl you have: straight or curly.

The curly hair formula includes polymers intended to hold the curl, while the straight formula does not. Customer service advised me that even if you have curls or want curls, use the straight formula if you like a looser, more natural look. The representative said the the curly formula would be better for someone who doesn't like to fool with their hair once it's styled.

The company also recommends the cream verses the spray for people with dry or damaged hair.

Products are currently available again, after being sold out, at www.livingproof.com.
Shipping is free right now. They will also be available on QVC, which is airing two shows on January 17, one at 2 p.m. EST and one at 7 p.m. EST. and in mid February, Sephora stores will start to carry the line.

How good are the products? The blogs are great reading, with lots of satisfied customers. And on ebay, the last pair of 4 oz. medium to thick straight cream formula sold for over $54.00 after a flurry of bidding.

My personal experience is this: not only did it tame my frizz, but when I get up in the morning I look human. Right now, in the -9 degree weather we've been having, frizz has not been a major issue, but my hair has been completely unmanagable in the morning. I can't even get a comb through it, and it's just embarassing. Normally I have to head right to the shower and wash and style my hair every morning, or I can't be seen in public. With the NO FRIZZ, I can get up and go. It's something that many may take for granted, but to me it's just a great, time-saving experience.

Great Customer Service

Another bonus. Actual humans answer the phone.

Almost as amazing as the polyfluoroesters, is the fact that the company is able to combine new technology with old fashioned service. Actual human beings answer the phone. You don't have to push anything, you just talk after they pick up the phone and say hello.

My call to customer service was regarding which product to order. The woman who answered recommended the product that she uses herself, even though it slightly differed from the company recommendations. Based on her experience, it made sense. It was the correct choice. It was real.

Then I had to email them to be sure the order went through. Got a pleasant email in return from the company president, with my order number. Very nice.

This Helen of Troy Hot Air Brush is also a big, big help. It has made such a difference in my hair. It's completely replaced my blow dryer and round brush for two reasons. First, because it gives my hair, which is thin, much more volume. I can control the curl by how I use the brush. And secondly, the results last much longer.

I use the 1 1/2 inch brush, which gives me the most volume. The smaller diameter will give a tighter curl.

Color is Key. Color yourself beautiful on Amazon

The importance of color can not over estimated. And the new No Frizz products will accentuate your hair color. So you want to get it right.

Color Me Beautiful has helped me save more money than any book on finance I ever read. Why? Because I stopped spending money on hair color, clothes and make-up that washed me out and were all wrong.

The effect of using a color that flatters your skin tone is amazing. The correct color in hair, clothes and makeup are essential in highlighting the beauty within. They make your skin look more smooth, glowing and youthful. You look more rested and pulled together. And you won't look like it's "all Make-up", because everything is in harmony.

If you're thinking that the Color Me Beautiful trend has faded, you're correct. Marketing has unfortunately moved along in it's effort to keep us buying new products, but that is our loss. Because the fundamentals of this concept are really timeless.

The program divides skin tones into four seasons. It helps the reader determine their season, and then explore which are their best colors. It also trains the reader to develop an eye for the differences in clarity and tone of colors. For example, every season may look good in red, but it's the difference between a warm clear red, a cool clear red, a warm muted red or a cool muted red that will determine which color is right for which season.

So now that you've conquered your frizz problem and love the look of your hair, it's time to pull your whole image toghether. And the correct color is really the place to start.

Hi, very nice lens. When I want to straighten out my curly, often frizzy hair I use the InStyler rotating hot iron. It's the only iron that I found that does the job. And actually the price is very reasonable!
