No Hype?

Spend ten minutes online trying to learn how to make some money and you're sure to find 1000's of sites with huge headlines screaming about your problem and how they're the solution. Sites that, if printed on letter size paper, could kill a forest. It's crazy. It's stupid. It's time for something different. It's time get rid of the hype and get down to business.

So, What Exactly is Internet Marketing?

give it to me straight!

The term Internet Marketing means different things to different people. Basically, it just means you market something on the Internet. But what and how you market is up to you.

You could market ebooks via PPC campaigns, or sex toys via article marketing campaigns. Maybe you'll write your own ebook and let others market it for you. No matter what you choose, it still comes down to this. Your job is to play matchmaker. You choose a product or service and find the perfect people to match it with. Or, you choose a group of people and match them with the perfect product. And the great thing is, you don't even need your own product. If you get into affiliate marketing, there are hundreds of thousands of products out there that you can sell.

So What Do I Do First?

no cart before the horse here

The first thing you should do is read a little about a lot of things. Find some information on affiliate marketing, SEO, PPC, domaining, arbitrage, blogging, article marketing. I'm not saying try to become an expert. Just learn what each of these things are. Then figure out if any of them sound interesting to you. If you like the sounds of affiliate marketing then you'll want to go to WealthyAffiliate.com and take their course. If you think you'd like to blog for a living, then go read ProBlogger's site. Either way you'll need to learn at least a bit of SEO so be sure to stop by SEOBook.com at some point.

But what if you already have a business and you just need some help growing it? If that's where you're at, you'll want to take a look at Rich Schefren's free ebooks and his coaching program.

Links to sites mentioned above.

Sites where you can get reliable information, without the hype.

SEO Book.com
This site contains many free tools that make SEO much easier. In addition to the tools there's also the SEO Book itself, which is wise investment for looking to really learn SEO.
WealthyAffiliate.com - The Wealthy Affiliate University
Out of all the internet marketing membership sites I've seen, the 'Wealthy Affiliate University' has the lowest amount of hype and one of the highest amounts of good, quality information.

And, they have an 8 week course designed to take you from total noob to a experienced marketer. So even if you don't know anything about running an online business, they can help.
ProBlogger Blog Tips
One of the original full-time bloggers, Darren Rowse. His blog is a must read for those trying to make money online through blogging.
Rich Schefren's "Business Growth System" Coaching Program
Okay, this one breaks the rules a bit because there is definitely some hype here. But Rich can back up his claims. I've been in this program for a while and wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who is serious about building a business.

Income Oppertunities

You're here to make money, right?

The following places will help you monetize your website. Some have traffic requirements and they all have different terms. I doubt any will work on every site, but just about every one should be able to use one of them.
LinkWorth
Sell text links on your site. You set your own price. Can pay much better than text-link-ads.com, depending on your site.
Chitika - eMiniMalls
The leading merchandising network for bloggers with more than 12,000 participating blogs and websites.
Clickbank
ClickBank is the Internet's largest digital marketplace. In other words, they don't deal in real, tangible products. Just ebooks and such. So, if you want to promote ebooks or have an ebook that you want others to promote, here's the place to do it.

Books of Interest

These are just a few books that I think may help you on your journey to making money online. I tried to pick a wide selection so that there would be something relevant whether your a say at home dad working from your bedroom or a working mom that's looking to make a few extra dollars each month.

Good introduction on Internet Marketing. This information will definitely be beneficial to Internet Marketing newbies. I've given your lens a 5 star rating. By the way, I've just created a lens on affiliate marketing - where I've answered questions that most people have when they are looking to start off with affiliate marketing.
