Nokia N9 Smartphone Review

If Nokia N8 was initially greeted with enthusiasm because of its design and then harshly criticized for the problems of Symbian 3, now has come the time when a successor wants to be an iPhone killer.

Probably you wonder why you should buy this phone? Well, I hope that this Nokia N9 Review will help you to decide if it's worthy... I can make a spoiler alert and say that this phone is a must have, but hey, don't trust my word and keep reading this article.

It's Nokia N9 which is in the duel with Samsung Galaxy S II and iPhone 4S. Innovation in design is fantastic for this chapter device. What you see here is a single block of polycarbonate, with a weight of 135 grams and a thickness of 12.1 mm. True, no breaks no record, but the phone looks fantastic and has a pleasant feeling in the hand of the user.

Nokia N9 Review

How good is Nokia N9?

Nokia N9 16GB 3G Wifi GPS NFC GSM Unlocked MeeGo Touchscreen (Black)
Amazon Price: Too low to display

Nokia introduced this model with great fanfare in June 2011 in Singapore. N9 has a diagonal screen of only 3.9 inches, this segment market being dominated by 4 or 4.3-inch screens.

Resolution of the AMOLED screen is 480 x 854 pixels, thus having a density of 251 dpi (iPhone 4 and 4S have 326 dpi). The display is protected by a layer of Gorilla Glass really strong, official recently test involved scratching this phone with a Stanley knife. The result? No sign of damage on screen. However, I do not know how that every time when a phone passes such a test, it is extremely easy to scratch when you hold it in your pocket next to coins and keys.

More interesting is that the same display has an anti-glare and I recognize that it performs very well in bright sunlight. Its hardware facilities also include an audio system with Dolby Mobile, 16 or 64 GB of internal memory, 1 GB RAM, HSDPA up to 14.4 Mbps, WiFi, WiFi hotspot function and Bluetooth 2.1. The brain of this device is a TI OMAP 3630 processor 1 GHz, a Cortex A8 accompanied by a PowerVR graphics processor which does a great job.

I must admit that the phone's built-in speaker does not really impressed me, especially as it is placed in the bottom of the handset and it doesn't have very many decibels.

About the camera, it has an 8 megapixel sensor, Carl Zeiss optics technology which include auto focus, dual LED flash, geotagging, face detection, touch focus and video capture 720p at 30 fps. Well, I was surprised to learn that this camera takes 8 megapixel photos up, but trust my word, pictures are impeccable. What to say of continuous auto focus while shooting, that even the most unfocused clips and trembling hands will give a sensation of reasonable videos. However, I would have liked the 1080p capture on this model, because I am sure that this camera has high potential.

N9 Nokia's battery is a Li-Ion 1450 mAh, which does its job great and you can have easy two or three days of operation on this model, even with WiFi and 3G turned on.

With a side swipe you unlock the phone, and with a swipe you make the transition between the main menus of the phone. You will not need physical buttons because with a swipe from the bottom to the top you exit from an application. Multitasking system is fantastic and the handset will not hiccups at all, even when multitasking applications is 36. They will close on holding down the icon or thumbnail, then click a little X at the top.

Unfortunately, there aren't too many applications for MeeGo. Fortunately terminal comes with many applications required for navigation, the Angry Birds, Skype, YouTube, NFS, Facebook, Twitter, a feed reader and many more. And note that this phone comes with a MicroSIM slot like iPhone 4.

The phone has advantage that it is something totally different this time, it has fantastic design, efficient multitasking and quality accommodation.

The Nokia N9 is the first MeeGo powered smartphone from the Finns, and we certainly hope it won't be the last because it's actually awesome. The unibody polycarbonate chassis might feel a little plasticky to the touch, but it seamlessly integrates into the glass 3.9-inch OLED panel, which offers ClearBlack display technology to make the dark bits darker and the colours more vivid than ever before.
