Defending Our Pets

(Note: Google ads on this page - such as those posted above - are not endorsed by the author).

When well known Hollywood dog trainer Bob Weatherwax took his ninth generation Lassie dog, known as Laddie, to the California state capital last year, the event made headlines all over the nation. Accompanied by longtime friend and former child actor Jon Provost (who played "Timmy" on the original Lassie TV series), Bob and Laddie were on a mission that continues to be a focus of their public appearances. The mission is to protect our pets from the publically veiled agenda of prominent Animal Rights groups such as PETA and the HSUS to legislatively take over all aspects of pet ownership, pet care, purebred dog and cat breeding, and animal rescue - not for their pretended purpose of "protection", but for a more sinister agenda that is designed to culminate in the eradication of domestic animals completely.

The Agenda

Most German Americans who grew up in the 1930's under the Hitler regime well remember the early days of the Animal Rights movement. The message of "pet protection" was preached to them as children in movie theater newsreels as well as in their schools. The admonition to report any instance of perceived mistreatment of animals seemed reasonable enough to those children, who certainly never realized it was a veiled incentive to develop a "snitch mentality" among the nation's youth, as well as an acceptance of the idea that individual privacy and property rights need not be respected by those "in authority". Similarly today, we see graphic displays of animal abuse in television PSA's and even weekly programming produced by Animal Rights groups. These same groups are prevalent in our schools through the use of their books and handouts as well as invited speakers. Yet when we research their organizational activities regarding actual "pet protection", we find instead a dismal and even frightening record of (behind the scenes) mass euthanasia of fully adoptable animals, advocacy and implementation of the bullying of citizen pet owners and fanciers who dare to expose their anti-animal activity, and even the filming of their own acts of cruelty to "pass off" as something they supposedly "secretly witnessed". The ever present photos of sad little puppies and kittens adorning their full color requests for donations delude millions of well intended pet lovers to support something they would never knowingly agree with.

True Animal Advocates

Bob Weatherwax represents three generations of animal trainers whose work is well known in the Hollywood industry and throughout the world. His father Rudd owned and trained the original Lassie dogs for both movies and television, and Bob grew up with the canine star of Lassie Come Home, Pal, as his best friend and babysitter. Bob is an animal lover. When Bob was approached by a group of concerned pet lovers, reputable dog and cat breeders, and well informed citizens concerned about pending Animal Rights based legislation in the state of California, he was already well aware of their plight. He had read the carefully convoluted language of the detailed AB 1634 proposal and well understood its genuine intent to target reputable breeders and fanciers and to cause low income pet owners to relinquish their animals to the growingly Animal Rights controlled shelters. He also understood that under the language of this proposal, the generational line of Lassie dogs that his family had developed and preserved for over sixty years would be required to come to a legally mandated end, as Laddie would be included in those categories of dogs who would have to be surgically sterilized. This informed understanding and this very personal situation, gave Bob all the incentive that was needed to say, "I'm there. Just tell me what you need from me to help."

The Big Lie

After AB 1634 was shelved, no one familiar with the true Animal Rights agenda was deceived into believing that it would end there. Everyone knew that the foothold this bill was designed to gain at the state level had already been implemented in unwitting communities throughout the country, and would continue to be proposed, ignorantly passed, and the legislative and financial burdens on pet owners and reputable breeders and fanciers unmercifully increased as mandatory sterilization and microchip (internally implanted identification) laws became more and more widespread. Already citizens in communities throughout the U.S have been victimized.
Camden NJ; New York City NY; Richmond VA; Bloomington IN; St Louis MI; Asheville NC; Houston TX; Denver CO; Los Angeles CA; Sacramento CA; and King County WA are just a few. Subversive Animal Rights language has crept into law in other areas, as well. Phrases like "animal guardian" have replaced "pet owner" in legal terms as a major step toward destroying the rights and freedoms of all citizens to own pets. Number limit laws have become commonplace. Slowly we have all been led to accept the idea that it is somehow "acceptably illegal" for a family to have three Yorkies and two cats as it's over a "number limit" imposed by a zealous legislator misled by an Animal Rights agenda! In numbers of communities, it is likewise the situation that "tethering" a dog is now illegal (Is a leash not a "tether"?) and attempts are being made to tighten even those laws to include the use of crates, exercise pens, and other safety enclosures! Breed specific legislation banning numbers of breeds of dogs constitute a step toward banning ALL breeds, and already include all individual dogs the local Animal Rights based Animal Control board decides to mislabel as representing a banned breed.

True animal lovers were, and are, still being deceived by what Hitler termed "the big lie" - a socially acceptable idea that hides an agenda no decent minded person would ever support.

The Biggest Lie in this subversion is "pet overpopulation". Animal Rights-run shelters throughout the country are quietly bringing in dogs from South America and other parts of the world to keep high what would otherwise be dwindling numbers of pets in shelters all over the country - including the "AB 1634 state" of California. Shelters are also maintaining a "high kill" status through mismanagment (by either ignorance or design) evidenced by the refusal to work with rescue groups (especially breed rescue groups which are typically run by reputable breeders whom Animal Rights groups prefer to target), the refusal to implement public education programs (which in some cases actually receive funding but are not carried out), unreasonable hours for public viewing of adoptable animals, and unreasonable criteria for deeming animals to be unadoptable.

The Real Pet Protection Bill

The mismanagement of our shelters is largely due to their being systematically taken over by Animal Rights interests which have their pet extermination agenda firmly in place. Their direct attack on the survival of purebred breeds of dogs and cats by the targeting of reputable breeders (both as a group and individually) is made relatively easy from this authoritative position. Construing allegations, false statistics, and even performing illegal and wildly "documented" raids against legitimate breeders and rescuers has driven numbers of law abiding and animal loving citizens underground out of the fear of similar attack. Many veterinarians who firmly disagree with juvenile hysterectomy and castration, as well as the perceived safety of microchips not only refuse to state their position publicly, but actually resign themselves to performing such procedures out of fear of reprisal. The invasion of the personal and property rights of individual pet owners by mandatory sterilization and microchip laws which statistically result in high numbers of animals being relinquished to shelters and even turned loose in the street are conversely documented as "successes" in the cause of animal welfare. It is time the fear of vindictive repercussion by unstable Animal Rights activists must be overcome by the outspoken proclamation of reason, and a TRUE animal advocacy that genuinely protects our pets (as well as our personal and property rights).

The No Kill Bill
IS that genuine animal advocacy legislation.

Diane, Thank you so much for all the time and effort you put in daily for animals. Last year I was amazed to see a H$U$ ad in the Cat Fancy rescue issue. I wrote and told them they were basically shooting themselves in the foot. I was so relieved to see your name in the editior note from Susan and no ad this year!!! AND they interviewed Nathan Winograd!!! Progress! Thanks again.

The animal rights people keep screaming about all the animals euthanized, but when you talk about no kill, or even trap and release for feral cats, they're dead set against it. They are the ones doing all the euthanizing, and people need to realize they're doing it heartlessly, unnecessarily, and to "prove" a point that is a total lie! I have learned that they club baby seals so they can film it and raise money for themselves, and they take over animal control agencies and humane societies so they can kill cats and dogs and scream that "breeders" are to blame! They are liars, theives, and evil moneymongers. Now they own Animal Planet and Oprah Winfrey. Hitler lives.

Thanks for sharing this, Diane. As a dog fancier, I can personally attest to being attacked by the Animal Retards... uh, Animal Rightists... uh, those people who think they know how to care for *my* show dogs.

Great info and great webpage! Congratulations on your advocacy for saving animals. Why so-called animal "care" groups such as HSUS advocate killing all shelter dogs and cats and do not support trap/neuter/release is really beyond comprehension. If only all the animal lovers who donated to these organizations realized their money was going to kill animals, I think the money would completely dry up for them. Keep up your good work!
