The Unfortunate Truth About Yeast Infections- Symptoms!

No one likes yeast infections, but the reality is that you might have one, and you need to know what the yeast infections symptoms are. After all, 75% of American women will experience at least one yeast infection in their lifetimes, and many will experience them more than that. Yeast infections are uncomfortable, embarrassing, and unfair. There is a cure, but before we get into that, we need to understand why this is happening to us.

Yeast Infection Causes

Why do I have a yeast infection?

To begin with, a yeast infection isn't an infection in the usual sense. Nothing outside of our body is invading us. Instead, the bacteria normally present in our reproductive system gets a little out of control. This bacteria is called Candida albicans. Actually, it can also get out of control inside your mouth, and in men, too! This article, however, focuses on typical vaginal yeast infections.

Do I Have a Yeast Infection?

Symptoms. Your symptoms can be varied, with some women experiencing almost no discomfort at all. The most commonly reported symptoms by far are itching, burning, thick white discharge, and discomfort during urination. Generally, if you think you have a yeast infection but are not experiencing discomfort, you can just wait until it goes away. And of course, see your doctor if you have any doubts.

Ever since the FDA changed their regulations to allow over-the-counter yeast infection medications, many women have been quick to label their symptoms as Candida, and buy medication. However, many feminine disorders have similar characteristics as a yeast infection, most particularly bacterial vaginosis. These similarities are yet another reason why pursuing a natural solution is so important.

The risk factors for getting a yeast infection

So now your question is, "What in the WORLD did I do to deserve this?" Well, you probably fall into one or more of the following categories.
  • You are a woman.
  • You are between the ages of 16 and 35.
  • You have had a yeast infection before.
  • You are currently taking antibiotics.
  • You are using oral contraceptives.
  • You often wear tight pants, bathing suits, or any other garments that keep your bottom half warm and moist.
  • You have uncontrolled diabetes
  • Your immune system is compromised.
Knowledge is power, and if you fall into one of the categories you have control over, you can begin to take steps to minimize your risk of having another yeast infection. For example, take your bathing suit bottoms off immediately after swimming, and put on clean, dry underwear.
