- I think the stepfather didn't have anything to do with the murder. Gary Dunn, who has been known and convicted to assault women, even by his own wife, and who's DNA was on the condom wrapper, who lived upstairs from Nona, is the only suspect and I hope he's tried for the third and final time. The jury in the previous two cases was hung 8-4 and now that the gag order has been lifted we can find out if 8 or the 4 thought he was guilty. This guy has mental problems and was asking for a mental evaluation before the verdict was even reached. He was ready to claim mental instability so they spare him the death penalty, which even his defense attorney agreed to. This guy probably came nocking for something simple so Nona let him inside, then he thought he'd be able to get some action since he's probably seen different guys coming and going from her apartment so he thought he had a chance too, when she refused to his advances he got crazy violent and slammed her in the head with the light base, then seeing she's probably dead, he panicked and ran back home like nothing happened, forgetting all about the condom wrapper on the kitchen counter. Case closed. His own wife refused his alibi that he wasn't around and she knows better than anyone else that he's capable of doing this. Hope to bring this criminal to justice soon so he doesn't do this to anyone else. If anyone has any agrees or disagrees or has different ideas or anything to add please respond so we can help solve this case.

- I just saw this case on "48hours Hard Evidence" and they reported she was cheating on her boyfriend with "many others".. and that police interviewed "All of the other men Nona was sleeping with and cleared them all".
They only showed on the tv show one of the "many other men". The clip showed him answering a polygraph test where he said they never used condoms during the 10 times he slept with her.
The police did find an empty condom wrapper in her apartment, even though her boyfriend also said he never used condoms with her either...OMG how MANY guys was she sleeping with? Is that "normal" type of sexually active for a 19 year old girl nowadays?

- This is such a terrible tragedy, but even worse is the fact that this crime may never be solved, a killer will go unpunished, and a family will never know the reasonings behind the vioent murder of their loved one. It sounds to me like the investigators need to be re educated on how to "investigate" and the cops need to learn how to NOT interfere with a crime scene. (Anyone with any common sense knows not to do some of the ignorent things that they did.) As for the boyfriend "Jones" and the friend "Dunn" I can not say who exactly that I think may be guilty. There is evidence that makes me suspicious of the both of them to be perfectly honest. And the parents also seem to have behaved very strangely. At this point only God knows who is guilty of such a horrible act. Anyway, all blame aside a life has been taken and she deserves closure and justice. I hope someone with little common sense can come in and put together something that will lead to a conviction, My condolences go out to her family and I pray that this does'nt have to happen to another family before someone finally decides to do something about it.

I'm a cop and my gut screamed at me that he was completely innocent, scared and baffled..not to mention in shock from the loss of his beloved girlfriend

- More than Likely, Gary Dunn is the person who killed Nona.
1. His DNA was found mixed with her DNA
2. He attacked a woman on the Bona Dea (sp)? trails in Russellville in 2002. Nona was attacked in a similar fashion.
3. Gary Dunn lived in the same apartment complex as Nona when she was murdered.

- as to why Nona's stepfather had her phone in the first place: LE got everything they needed from that phone and they had not use for it anymore.
Nona's Stepfather had NOTHING to do with her death. hopefully after GD has been tried and convicted of her murder 48 hours and Dateline will update their stories.

- The step-father did NOT do it. The news reporting this case since day one has been one sided. Dateline, through the magic of editing, managed to paint the picture of him having motive. What they failed to reveal is that his whereabouts were established and that him being a suspect was impossible. With regards to Kevin, again, the media was one sided. I know the family of the victim and I know of things that the police had gathered that was later admitted in court as evidence and in my opinion it was purely circumstantial. Bravo for a jury strong enough to see that. Do I think Kevin did it...no. Do I think Gary did it...I don't know. Things have been much quiter and I do not know all the evidence they have that would incriminate him other than one key piece that links him to previously being in the appartment of the deceased. What I do know is that plenty of people have one sided opinions based on what the media has fed them and that ignorance and hatred of said opinions is just as dangerous as the crime its self.

- In reading some of the comments, I noticed that the accusation that the stepfather is guilty was basically from a feeling or a suspicion. That is how I feel..I did not see a Dateline episode on the case, but rather a repeat 48 Hours, so anything that affected him was not included, such as his established whereabouts. It's simply very tragic that the case was not handled properly and there is still not justice.

- The Stepfather didn't do it. The police did their job by focusing on the boyfriend, but they should also have immediately done a search of possible neighbors with criminal backgrounds. That might have given credibility to Kevin's story even while the police were verifying it.
I see that after the new guy was arrested, the parents who villified Kevin didn't want to talk about the case. Too ashamed to admit they could be wrong? What a fine example of humanity.
And for the mother of the neighbor who was arrested who was insisting her son didn't even know Nona...how was his DNA on the condom wrapper inside her home? Denial is a terrible thing.

- Someone please tell me they are not just going to settle with this new guy? They need to still be looking into anyone who has a connection with Nona. Like say the stepfather. This guy is sick. He had the phone and asked for it back? WHY? what was sooo important about that phone? It wasn't the fact that he is cheap. That was a stupid comment he made. Whatever this could be the killer. Think about it and watch the 48 hours show. Watch his actions in and out of the media. There is something off about this guy.

- Hopefully when the trial of Gary Dunn is concluded, the real killer of Nona Dirksmeyer will be off the street forever. I wonder id her mother, stepfather and the Kevin Jones haters will apologize to Kevin and his family for their poor treatment. And will Arkansas Tech finally admit him and apologize for denying him entrance to their school? Shame on all of you for treating him so badly when he was acquitted. You should aim your anger at the Russellville PD and prosecutor.

- Good grief Peter! Why does everything have to be about race. I pray for the family of Nona that they may one day have peace and at least some satisfaction when the killer is finally convicted. Anyone can look at Gary Dunn and know that Nona would have NEVER had anything to do with someone like him willingly. GD is a predator. I believe this man is guilty and the world is a much safer place with him off the streets. Just ask that poor lady jogger he attacked. She would have probably been another unsolved homicide had she not fought back. Poor Nona may have cooperated with him somewhat because she thought there was a chance her might let her go. GD is right where he needs to be imo and if convicted hopefully sent somewhere he can never hurt another human being again. I know everyone keeps pointing at the weird and creepy step-father, but trust me. He did not do this. Look into the eyes of GD and you will see a cold-blooded killer with no compassion or concern for others.

- I just watched 48 hours on tv in sweden and googled the internet to see what became of the story. I can't believe how bad the police did their work. They could have had the right murder arrested, instead they made KJ go through hell. I can't believe ND:s parents either. Totaly blinded by hate. Even so much that the stepfather knowingly destroyed evidence. I hope that peace and justice will come to Nona.

- Both Kevin's defense team and the new PA tested for the step-father's dna. NOTHING was found. Is that good enough for you, or must you continue to attack the victim's family? Your nic suits you well.
News programs like Dateline should not be taken at face value. Their only purpose is to entertain, not to uncover the truth. Innocent people are implicated without even a thought. Should you ever find yourself in the midst of nightmare like Nona’s murder, DO NOT give an interview to these people! Heartless, is the best word I can come up with. It really is all about the money and ratings.

- What a tragic case. To me, the fault lies with the Russellville PD. They were clearly underqualified to conduct a thorough investigation and that, coupled with the "bubba" mentality, spelled disaster for not only K. Jones, but everyone involved. Now that's there's supposedly irrefutable DNA evidence that Gary Dunn was the murderer, I wonder how Nona's family feels about all the horrible things they said about K. Jones and his family? Tragedy for EVERYONE.

- The stepfather is so guilty. His mean attitude is horrible. He was too firm with her and is the reason she moved out to begin with. Had her on a 9pm curfew because he locked doors at 10pm and said nothing good happened after 10pm. He is an arrogant killing pig! They need to call in some real lawmen and get him to confess. They botched the crimescene so badly they won't have any evidence to prove it. He will have to finally confess. They need somebody really good to interogate him! What a loser he is! He makes me sick! The grinning mother makes me even sicker! Does she really need a man that badly to stay with her daughers killer? Whew! I feel better now!
