What is negativity?

I define negativity as any thought, word or action that is contrary to the will of the Father expressed in Scripture. If you take time to examine what's in the Bible, the best of us can be encouraged to do better. I'll give you the tools... and we have the Holy Spirit to empower us to make the changes we need to.

How do we confront negativity?

Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. Galatians 6:8 (NLT)

Negativity has two areas of confrontation that you need to be ready for. The first controls the second, but one cannot be dealt with, without dealing with the other. These are your mind, (a.k.a. heart), and your mouth.

Our Mind

In our mind there are at least six strongholds that are common to many: self-condemnation, living in a negative environment, excusing un-forgiveness, living offended at God, wallowing in discouragement, and being judgmental. We'll tell you how or you can go to 40DaysFromNegativity.com to sign up for our daily emails.

Our Mouths

The next area of confrontation you'll face is what comes out of your mouth. This is the area that is most visible to people who are watching you and your witness of Christ.

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you where sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. Ephesians 4:29-32 (NIV)

Proverbs 18:21 gives us hope that we can control our tongues:

"The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit." (NIV)

In just a little bit, we'll tell the words you need to give up and the words you can use in their place.
