Nonito Donaire Jr: The Filipino Flash

Nonito Donaire Jr.
In the world of boxing, there are bad fighters, there are good fighters and then there are the best fighters. Boxing is unlike any other sport and we are all familiar with the differences. For one thing it is a combat sport wherein a player has no other goal but to inflict pain and hurt to the opposing player. Some tag the sport as barbaric but that is exactly what boxing is all about.

Boxers fight under several divisions depending on their weights from the lightest(Minimumweight) to the heaviest(Heavyweight). This is the reason why it's very difficult to determine who the best boxers are. There are a lot of weight divisions so there are a lot of champions as well. Not to mention the several boxing organizations and sanctioning bodies who often have different champions under each of them.

There is this term in boxing called "pound for pound fighter". This is attached to fighters who can successfully fight under several divisions and dominate those divisions. One such fighter is the Filipino phenom Manny Pacquiao. He's won world titles in eight divisions. This is why he is currently referred to as the number 1 or number 2 pound for pound fighter in the world.

Nonito Donaire Jr. has also won titles in several divisions and he did it in dominating fashions. The most recent of which is his 2nd round knockout of Mexican Fernando Montiel who is a feared knockout artist himself. It is no surprise therefore to find his name in most pound for pound lists written by boxing followers and analysts.
