How to Find Safer Baby Bottles

The challenge of finding a safer option faces a world where concern about toxic plastic is met by rows and rows of baby bottles made of unknown materials. It's a nightmare trying to wade through the endless sea of baby bottles out there.

Surely you can just turn the box over and read the label to find out what the bottle is made of, right? Wrong! Manufacturers are not required to label their products. So that leaves parents wondering what to do next.

Polycarbonate plastic is made using bisphenol-a (BPA), an industrial chemical used in the manufacture of over 90% of major baby bottle and sippy cup brands. Environmental scientists have labeled BPA as an endocrine disruptor. Studies show that the unstable BPA bond will allow the chemical to leach into food or beverages in contact with the plastic during normal, everyday use.
