Tablets and eReaders are merging
Just recently there seems to have been a merging of technologies, dedicated eBook readers and tablet computers have become interchangeable. Ereader and tablet comparison shows, that the line between the two technologies is becoming increasingly blurred. Barnes and Noble's Nook Color is a development from their eReader, not only adding color to the screen but also incorporating the Android OS (operating system) enabling Wi Fi connectivity and access to social media such as Email, YouTube videos, enhanced by Adobe Flash Player and with web connectivity.
Nook Color Features
Conectivity, internet access, storage space and video
As an E Reader, the Nook Color is pretty cool, but then it takes a jump into web connectivity, email and the world of apps and becomes a different beast altogether!
The Wi Fi connectivity built into the Nook allows email access and beyond, with apps to ensure that you can use all Microsoft office programs; access music on Pandora® Internet radio; read news as it happens; check the weather, decide on a recipe for dinner tonight and share all of this with friends on Facebook, Twitter and other social networks. Because Adobe Flash player is built in, you can also enjoy videos from the web.
The Nook Color has 8GB of built-in memory, equivalent to storing up to 6,000 books. On top of that the personalization on the Nook color allows for around 500 songs, 50 kids picture books and 150 photos to be stored. To increase your capacity, you simply add a micro SD card, pop it into the slot and then you could have up to another 32GB of memory.

Usability
The limitations on the Nook Color will be seen by some as the number of apps, but this is increasing rapidly and they have their own app developers group. The use of Android as operating system is a smart move; it encourages this to be the eReader you may use alongside existing technology or as a cheaper alternative to tablet pc, until you can afford the more expensive technology.
In comparison to tablets like iPad, Nook Color is is considerably cheaper! It has a capacitive Touchscreen which customers say sometimes it is almost too responsive! You do get fingerprint build up, so keep the screen clean to avoid problems in the sunlight. If you use the Nook Color solely as an eBook eReader your battery life is about 8 hours; if you start playing on the games apps and surfing the web expect that to reduce to 6 hours.

What customers say
The Nook Color is more expensive than a Kindle, but the color is great, and access to apps is a great draw for many teenager users. It is heavy on battery use, and has to be charged very regularly, so it loses some of its portability. Young users who have smart phones and want an eReader say it is too expensive as they will not use half of the apps. Those who were not able to afford their ideal, the iPad are very keen on the Nook Color as it combines so many features and is cheaper than tablet computers.

Overall verdict
This is a very good looking eReader, delivering far more than others in the market. Its capacity as a tablet is limited by the apps currently included, but using the Android OS you can effectively add whatever app you want, and the Nook developers are producing them weekly. The battery life is poor if you want to use this as a tablet all day, you have to charge it each night. If you have neither a tablet nor an eBook reader, this is a good choice to learn what you want from both when you choose to upgrade, or as technology changes even further!
