Nook Vs. Kindle Vs. Sony Reader

Ranked #12,153 in Computers & Electronics, #244,986 overall

How the E-Readers Measure Up

The newly released Barnes & Noble Nook, like the Amazon Kindle and Sony Reader, lets you carry hundreds of digitized books in a package that weighs less than a pound. The future is in digital books. During this past Christmas Day customers bought more electronic books than hard-copy books on Internet retail giant Amazon.com. The average electronic book costs $6 less than a hardcover, reports publishing research firm Bowker. So, if you buy two a month, you can recoup the $250 to $300 cost of an e-reader in two years. This will save you money. If you download free books from Google's public-domain collection the payoff is even faster.
Which of the three is most worthy of your hard-earned cash? MONEY magazine tested them to help you pick one you won't be able to put down. Below are the results.

Amazon Kindle

Amaxon Kindle 2The reading screen on this second-generation Amazon Kindle is equivalent to the Nook's, but navigating is complex with all the buttons. Amazon offers a fine selection of blogs and periodicals. Amazon often has the best prices on books, however, it provides fewer titles than Barnes & Noble. In addition, you can't access as many free books as on the Nook because the Kindle doesn't support the ePub format.
