I LOve Nootybrags!

Ranked #16,109 in Pets & Animals, #446,566 overall

"What's a nootybrag, Mommy?"

Ever hear a word wrong, but that misheard word becomes the one you forever think of, even after you know the right word? That's how it is for me.

Nootybrags is how I first heard the name nudibranchs, the collective name of an amazing family of seasnails that are, for me, as fun as "Nootybrags " makes them out to be! They are either the colorful clowns of the sea...or the magical creatures beyond any myth we could imagine. like the glaucus pictured here.

Don't let the idea that seasnails must be slimy disgusting things stop you here. Okay, sometimes that's true, but along with the slime there is an amazing glamour...

Enjoy this article, and especially the wonderful nudibranch photography of Samuel Chow...

Pretty Poison

Like most really pretty things, they have a down side...(and it's disgusting)

Nudibranchs are so irresistably pretty, they need a little help in protecting themselves, and that little helper is poison. The interesting part about that is - they borrow the poison from the things they eat! This video explains the down side of being so pretty...

Nootybrags are touchy feely...

I adore a dorid!!!

This video is rated R if there are any young nudibranchs reading here -

but wait, I just remembered - nudibranchs are almost blind - which is why they are so touchy feely!

Just so you know - the details of snail sex really are discussed here. Cover any delicate ears...

You will want to expand this video into the Youtube screen to read all of the information, but the scenes alone show the variety of the species - almost infinite in the colors, shapes, and forms...

Just remember that nudibranchs are very, very small, some not even a quarter inch long, so don't sit too close to the screen during the - more interesting scene...

Phyllidiopsis Fissuratus (2.5 cm)

Chromodoris Elizabethina (4 cm)

And the winner of the Nootybrag beauty contest is...yuck

(We'll just slightly go over the more disgusting things about sea snails...)

I couldn't help laughing as I watched this video - so much beauty, but Old Beavis and Butthead would have a field day ("Hey dude, he said A -")

A giggle, BUT you'll also learn a lot about a nootybrag's butt....

Horror!!! Someone is eating Nootybrag!!!

I promise - No nudibranchs were eaten in the making of this video...

Marzipan nudibranchs and funny songs lead off this discussion of what nudibranchs are.

Now you know you can find ANYTHING on youtube...

I've never heard of these creatures but I love your lens about them. Well done for introducing us to these and for using such lovely pictures and informative videos proving not all slug-like creatures are ugly. Blessed by an Angel.
