Norbridge Antiques, since 2006

Since Norbridge Antiques started in 2006, we have been serving our customers through personal referrals, through our online store Norbridge Antiques, and through our eBay store Norbridge Antiques, featuring antiques, vintage collectibles, and replacement crystal, china, and sterling silver. We began by scouring estate sales, and village antique shops in southern Ontario where we live. Many treasures can be found in this region because of its British, and American history. We found many objects originating in England, Scotland, Ireland, continental Europe, and the United States acquiring a large collection of elegant, practical, and decorative objects in the best of taste to offer our customers, dating from twenty-five years ago all the way back to the Georgian period in the early 1800s. Most of our collection comprises of antique and vintage objects that also have a practical aspect such as furniture, dinnerware, and flatware.

It is our pleasure to find treasures, research their manufacture and origin, and discuss them with our customers.

Antiques and Vintage Collectibles

Antiques are objects of considerable age valued for their aesthetic and/or historical significance. At the beginning of the twentieth century when collecting antiques was becoming the rage, antiques were defined as hand-made objects originating prior to 1820. Soon these could be found only in the best museums, and in the homes of the rich. Currently, in Europe and Canada, antiques are objects over 100 years old. In the U.S.A., objects over 25 years old are antiques.

Many people describe anything made before 1950, antique, and anything made in the 1950s and 1960s, mid-century. Vintage is used for things made in the 1970s and 1980s.

Collectibles are any objects or group of objects anyone considers worth collecting.

Norbridge Antiques Inventory and Customer Service

Just the facts

Each product in our inventory is especially selected to be of as excellent condition as possible. We buy only from trusted sources, and describe each product in detail to the best of our ability. We make sure to point out any flaws when writing our descriptions. Every product is gently washed and polished by hand before shipping. All of our inside packaging is brand new. We also usually ship in new boxes but at times we will ship in once-used boxes that are in excellent condition. Every step of the way, we try to put ourselves into our customers' shoes because we want you to be happy with your purchases from Norbridge Antiques. We ship to the United States and to Canada.

How We Decided on our Name

Our corporation needed a distinctive name to build a strong brand. The "Nor" means north because we are based in Canada, and "bridge" comes from our connection to the United States through family, friends, and business associates. Our company and brand is named Norbridge Antiques.

Antiques as Investments

Do you think antiques and vintage products are good investments?

Yes, many antiques increase in value over time.

Dena says:

Yes! The enjoyment collectors and dealers receive from the hunt of a good find is priceless. Investment not only in that most quality pieces increase in time but also they enrich our lives with their beauty. To feed the soul is the greatest pleasure and I find antiques do just that for me.

norbridgeantiques says:

Yes, cheerfulshe, that is what gives us antiques dealers great pleasure. I've enjoyed reading your informative squidoo lenses on furniture restoration and encourage everyone to read them.

cheerfulshe says:

One should be careful here - most importantly something should be bought because one likes it & wants to live with it - thats pleasure - if it should also increase in value, your'e tired of it & you sell it for more - thats an even greater pleasure!

norbridgeantiques says:

gardenartus, thank you for your kind words, and for visiting.

gardenartus says:

Your pictures are beautiful! I love the idea behind your name. Lovely! I also learned something by reading your article. Thank you!

marymc says:

Without a doubt.

KimGiancaterino says:

I love things that are handed down. I still use my great-grandmother's pepper mill and dairy creamer.

Jack2205 says:

I love antiques. They don't make anything now as good as they used to years ago.

TheWhistler says:

Sometimes,it depends on what is in at the moment.
No matter I just like antiques

poddys says:

Some items yes. A lot of art-deco pottery has increased on value, some paintings and souvenirs of times gone by too. Take collectible items from the first Star Wars movie for example, some of those are worth a lot. You also never know what you might find in the attic or at a yard sale.

No, antiques shouldn't be thought of as investments.

XP says:

Maybe they can be, but all too often they are clutter, knick-knacks that require dusting, baubles and trinkets that are kept simply because they are old. If it was junk in the 50s it is still junk today.
