Nordic Walking to Fitness

Since I started my Nordic Walking journey at the beginning of 2005, I have invested hundreds of hours in research to find the answers to my many questions

It hasn't been easy

In the beginning I was surprised to find that no book had been published in the English language on the subject of Nordic Walking. As for websites, most of these provided the same basic, very generalized information. For me, they didn't get into the 'nitty gritty' that my inquisitive mind wanted to explore - I wanted to know more, a lot more!

To help satisfy my curiosity, I decided to train as an INWA (International Nordic Walking Association) Instructor in London, England. I then set up my own Nordic Walking business in my home town of Poole on the southern coast of England, to teach people the skills they needed to enjoy the amazing benefits of this wonderful activity

Is Nordic Walking just another excercise fad?

Nordic walking has its origins in Finland where in the 1930's cross-country skiers used poles to reinforce their summer training. It was from there that clinical studies showed a correlation to improved fitness levels.

You may be forgiven for thinking that this is no different than walking. Nordic walking when conducted with proper technique has shown in recent studies by the Cooper Institute, Dallas that Nordic walking burned more calories, and 46% more efficient than normal walking as it utilized 90% of the body's muscles.
