Normal IQ Scores Plotted on the IQ Scale
IQ stands for Intelligence Quotient and is a measure of how intelligent we are. Because IQ is such a personal thing, it's natural that we want to find out more about how it relates to us. Plotting national results on the IQ scale can give us a perspective where we can see what normal IQ scores are and what scores are counted as intelligent or un-intelligent. However, IQ tests are not a set-in-stone way of determining how intelligent someone is, and if people have a particularly low, or high IQ score, it does not portray 100% that they are intelligent or un-intelligent.
The IQ Scale Bell-Curve
A Summary of the Distribution of Average IQ Scores

When you plot a fair sample of the population's IQ scores on an IQ against percentage chart, the average IQ scores become apparent and we can also see that the population distribution on the IQ scale forms a symetrical bell-shaped curve. What this shows us is that as the IQ scale goes from below 60 to 100, the number of people with that IQ score increases and peaks at around 100. Past 100, the percentage decreases in symmetry to the start of the curve, with a very small percentage of the population reaching an IQ of over 140.
From this chart as well as countless other studies, we can safely assume that a normal IQ score is generally considered to be around the 100 mark.
