Norman Rockwell Art, Life and Tribute

Norman Percevel Rockwell (February 3, 1894 - November 8, 1978) is a very popular 20th century American illustrator and painter.    His well-liked works, still trendy to this day, provide a story in a picture which presents an ambiance to any room in which they are displayed.  Rockwell is most celebrated for the cover illustrations of everyday life in publications such as The Saturday Evening Post, Boy Scouts of America, and Boy's Life.  Among the best-known of Rockwell's publications are the Willie Gillis series, Rosie the Riveter (although his Rosie was reproduced less than others of the day), Saying Grace (1951), and the Four Freedoms series.  I know his works are some of the favorites for my wife and I.  I will give an overview, and tribute to him and his works in this lens.  This is a growing site, and you might want to bookmark this lens.  Hope you enjoy it!

In 1943, during the Second World War, Rockwell painted the Four Freedoms series ...  The above picture is entitled "Freedom of Speech."   The U.S. Treasury Department later promoted war bonds by exhibiting the originals in 16 cities.
