Find Unclaimed Money in North Carolina

North Carolina - or the top slice of bread in the Carolina Sandwich, as I like to call it - is currently holding OVER HALF A BILLION DOLLARS in unclaimed money!  And the best part?  It's owed to everyday citizens who simply need to put in the effort to track down the missing money, and claim it!

If you think there's even a slight chance that you, a family member, or anyone you know, are owed North Carolina unclaimed money, then you owe it to yourself to look in to it and learn how to do a thorough unclaimed funds search.

Spokeswoman for the NC Treasury Heather Franco says "The North Carolina Department of State Treasurer holds nearly $700 million in unclaimed property." In a report done by The Daily Vidette on state unclaimed property, she goes on to say that there are a million unclaimed property accounts in the North Carolina unclaimed property database. With a total population of 8 million, that means 1 out of 8 resident in the state has lost money to claim!

Searching For Unclaimed Property the Right Way!

After a period of inactivity, often called a "dormancy period", unclaimed property in a variety of forms, is turned over to the state. The state doesn't spend the money, they simply earn interest (to spend) on it, while they wait for you to claim it.

The Department of the State Treasurer says this about the hundreds of millions they're holding in North Carolina unclaimed money:

...financial institutions, insurance companies, businesses and government agencies in the form of wages, utility deposits and insurance policy proceeds. These are just a few of the 100 types of property reclaimed every day by our agency. By law, these funds are escheated, or turned over, to our agency for safekeeping.

The web site goes on to list other types of NC unclaimed money:

Unclaimed property consists of bank accounts, wages, utility deposits, insurance policy proceeds, stocks, bonds, and contents of safe deposit boxes that have been abandoned - that is, for which there have been no documented transactions or contact with the owners for a statutory period of time. In most cases, this period of time varies from 1 to 5 years depending upon the property type. There are over 100 types of property which may become unclaimed.

Unclaimed Money Secret #1 - There is NO SUCH THING as a "national unclaimed money database". Anyone claiming there is, is not telling you the truth.

Unclaimed Money Secret #2 - The "searchable databases" currently available, are usually just a trick to convince you to choose to use their services. Testing almost always reveals that these "databases" are in fact filled with bogus information that will return search results on names of anyone, even fictional characters!
