✔ Let's Go to North Myrtle Beach!

Ranked #12,818 in Travel & Places, #311,626 overall

It's important to know that "North Myrtle Beach" is a separate city from "Myrtle Beach"

North Myrtle Beach is not just the north end of Myrtle Beach, it's an entirely different city.

I knew that before I went there, but it didn't really sink in until we drove through both cities. We (my family) found it very confusing to locate businesses because of the similar sounding names. Worse, each city has the same street names - but in entirely different locations. Both cities have a "Main Street" - also in different locations - which intersects Ocean Boulevard. Main Street is where Ocean Blvd. changes from North Ocean Blvd to South Ocean Blvd.

There's a North Ocean Blvd in Myrtle Beach and a North Ocean Blvd in North Myrtle Beach. When you drive this road you don't notice any real distinction. It's not until you are trying to find your hotel, a specific restaurant, or some other address that you run into problems.

On a more positive note, we had a fabulous time at North Myrtle Beach and everyone in our group agreed that if we were to come back to the Grand Strand (another term used to describe this part of the South Carolina coastline) we would definitely stay at North Myrtle Beach.

Cherry Grove Pier Web Cam

Prince Resort

This is a nice web cam. First, it's at the end of the fishing pier instead of on the shore looking out at the pier. Second, it's the type of camera that you, the viewer, can take control and change where the direction of the camera.

Note that the camera is in the city of "North Myrtle Beach" which is not the same as "the northern end of Myrtle Beach." The pier at Cherry Grove is about 19 miles north of the "Second Avenue Pier" at Myrtle Beach.

Supposedly, this is a good web cam to watch the July 4th fireworks.

Tides and Water Temperatures

From Boulineau's

Boulineau's is a locally owned business with two distinct buildings. One is primarily a food store and the other is a hardware store. The food store includes souveniers and beach gear plus a ton of other stuff that makes this store well worth the trip. Anyway, they publish a tide chart that we used during our vacation, but they also have that information online.

Instead of me trying to reproduce the tide charts on this lens, I'm just going to direct you to their site: Links to tide charts for South Carolina

You can also go directly to the NOAA site for Little River Neck which is the closest station to North Myrtle Beach.

Moved to North Myrtle Beach last summer - I am very in to the Beach Music Scene and NMB is the place to be if you love Carolina Beach Music.

Very good coverage of NMB - I used to live there and still work there - it's a great town that too often gets overshadowed by the "Myrtle Beach" blanket term for the area. Nice to know it is appreciated by those who visit. When I get around to creating my lens on the area - I'll be sure to lensroll you.ga

I began reading this book about two weeks before our trip to North Myrtle Beach and Charleston, South Carolina. From this book I learned alot about the history of South Carolina and it really helped me appreciate this area of the United States during our visit.
