North San Luis Obispo County: Paso Robles, Templeton, and Atascadero
Ranked #7,226 in Travel & Places, #195,564 overall
North San Luis Obispo County is an Exciting Place to Live
The towns of Paso Robles, Atascadero, and Templeton, have many tourist attractions that are here for us locals all the time, and they also have many events which draw both locals and tourists through the seasons. There's never a dull moment, since even the everyday tasks of life, such as shopping, can become entertainment. Our local communities have an abundance of free attractions and events held in their parks and other public places, as well as the many events people can pay for, such as wine tasting and tours, concerts, and charity events. I'm hoping that if you live here, you many discover something new to do you didn't know about, and if you don't live here, you may decide to pay our North County a visit.

Life in the North County
The North County has four towns: Atascadero, Templeton, Paso Robles, and San Miguel. On its outskirts are Creston and Shandon, and half an hour from Templeton and Paso Robles, on the coast, sit Cambria and San Simeon. Technically, these are all part of the North County, but since most of my personal experience is in Atascadero, Paso Robles, and Templeton, where I live, I will limit my discussion mostly to these. I mention the others because their attractions are close enough for day trips. There are easily accessible beaches on the coast, in both north and south counties, and, of course, one can visit Heast Castle in San Simeon in less than an hour from any part of the North County. The mission at San Miguel, which was damaged in the Paso Robles Earthquake in 2003, has been repaired and is open again to visitors. The North County is better known for its specialty shops and Farmers Markets than for large department stores, though it does have a few of the big boxes such as Walmart, Office Max, Staples, Lowe's, Home Depot, and Orchard Hardware Supply. Its department stores are limited to J.C. Penny, Kohl's, and Sears.
The North County is probably best known for it's wine tasting and vineyards. The wineries sponsor many events during the year, including events to benefit education and other worthy causes. They also display the work of many local artists. Although there are a few other art galleries in the North County, I am most familiar with the relatively new Studios on the Park in Paso Robles. That, by itself, has convinced me that the arts are alive and well in the North County.
Recreational opportunities abound in the North County. All three communities have public parks, and we have two lakes where our citizens can enjoy themselves. Most free community events take place in the city parks, such as the concerts in the park and various celebrations and events. There are so many of these that I've only begun to sample them. Cyclists are also encouraged by the many bike lanes throughout the country. There are also many places where one can hike or take a beautiful walk.
I hope you will enjoy exploring the North County as I have known it in my 17 years living here. My converted barn house is in the middle of the picture.
My home is in Templeton
Templeton is the town I know best. I live here and work here in my home office.I attend a lot of events that happen at the City Park. I walk around and explore my neighborhood. These lenses will show you around my immediate neighborhood, and some of the nearby walks and tasting rooms that are no more than five minutes from home by cars.

Where I Shop in Templeton
I do a lot of my shopping at Farmers Market, which in Templeton happens at the City Park on Saturday mornings, rain or shine, from 9-12:30. Sometimes I also shop in the specialized shops in Templeton's Historic District. I put the related quizzes in just for fun.
North County Attractions and Special Events
This section will feature lenses on those attractions and events that people often come from out of town to see or be part of. I have only included here places I have been or events I have attended. This section will grow as I am able to attend more events.

Art in the North County
It's only this year that I started realizing the opportunity we have here to meet and interact with local artists at Studios on the Park and to see their work at various festivals, businesses and tasting rooms. I am still working on my lens on the Paso Robles Festival of the Arts, but you will see part of the event as it took place at Studios on the Park. The rest will come when I have time to put together all the pictures, videos, and other materials that I have collected at the 2010 event. It, and Templeton's Day in the Shade, are where I first discovered the wonderful talent we have here in San Luis Obispo County.

Holidays in the North County
North County communities have traditions uniquely their own. I, again, will only feature here those events I've witnessed or been part of. I don't attend all of them every year, but I have attended each of them at least once. Templeton and Paso Robles keep me so busy with their events I haven't had time to check out Atascadero's annual Winter Wonderland. So much happens here that it's difficult for one person to attend it all.
Some of the events here are official public events that are announced. Others are informal traditions, such as the caroling at the convalescent home and the decorating of the neighborhood at Riverbank.

Slices of Life as Lived in the North County
These are the lenses that are hard to classify. Some of these things could happen anywhere, but they happened here and I reported them. Others relate to businesses that serve people here.

- I am from Pismo beach. I was in the N.G. at Atascadero, I was a Mechanic. I worked for the N.G. full time as a Mechanic in Paso Robles. I also worked and lived in San Luis Obispo for a couple of years. I have driven through Templeton but never spent any time there. Fun Lens, brings back good memories.
