Lovely Images of the Aurora Borealis

I'm from Alaska, but I don't live there anymore, and one of those things that I miss the most is that I no longer get the chance to see the Northern Lights dance across the sky at night. Watching the Northern Lights is a activity that even the most jaded people don't get tired of. Even if the display is small captures our attention and reminds us how incredibly amazing our planet is. But, on those nights when the display is wondrous ... I can't count the number of times I was called by friends letting me know there was a magnificent show outside.

Surely it was a night like that that inspired Bifröst, the rainbow bridge that reaches between Midgard and Asgard. I have a lens featuring Norse Mythology.

I used to live not far from Chena Hot Springs, so there was a time I went to soak in the outdoor hot springs when it was 30 degrees below zero and watch the Northern Lights dancing across the skies. A mulch-colored display like this is really special.

I digitally-recolored this photography of the aurora borealis from an original public domain photo from the U.S.A.F. taken by personnel at Bear Lake in Alaska. I made the night sky darker and the aurora the characteristic green of northern lights.
