Norton 360 or Mcafee Total Protection?
Ranked #827 in Computers & Electronics, #14,700 overall
Which Is Better?
In order to keep our computer's safe, we need a antivirus to protect it. Some people like one over the other and yet others like the free ones over the paid ones. For me, I like the paid ones over the free ones. I have used both Mcafee and Norton at some point, plus I have tried the free ones in the past.

McAfee had become fat and slow, which used to be the knock on Norton. So I moved back to the Norton Internet Protection Suite 3 years ago and found they had made dramatic improvements in the performance. Small footprint, lots of information, no viruses...what's not to like?

Norton 360. I had McAfee and got a virus that wiped out my hard drive.

Norton 360. I had Mcafee and my system was extremely slow. System would take forever to boot up. I deleted Mcafee and my system was free again. I installed Norton 360 and my system is still running smooth.

I love 360! Norton's has been the company I've trusted the most since I had a Windows 3.2 machine, and 360 may be their best product yet!

Mcafee Total Protection
Cassie Richards says:
Ansolutely choose McAfee total protection over Norton - never had a virus ever and always updating software to latest version too, plus a great price for 3 home PC's.

Which One Do I have?
When I had first bought my computer a year ago, I had Norton Internet Security. A year later, I had to renew my subscription to Norton. Instead of staying with the same one I had before. I went up a notch and went with Norton 360. It has everything you liked in Norton Internet Security plus some extras.

I used AVG Free for a while after my McAfee mishap and it seemed fine . . . just chose to go with Norton 360.

Actually I've always been pretty pleased with AVG. It caught things that the paid ones didn't.

I've been really happy with Norton 360 since I started using it several months ago.

Free Antivirus Software is better than nothing, but I've had to help clean out machines that only had free protection. I pay for my protection, it's a small price to pay for automatic updates, scheduled scanning and tech support - basically peace of mind!

Free Antivirus Software
My Take On Free Antivirus Software
You really get what you paid for. The free ones do not always pick up what Norton or Mcaffee would find. I have tried avg and clam win and neither have picked on viruses. I used it on my old desktop and when I tried to move some files from that computer to this one, Norton picked up on a virus and zapped it. Some things that you download from torrents end up being viruses. On top of it all, Norton and Mcafee are constantly monitoring you computer unlike some of the others.

While I understand why someone wouldn't want all the extras, I'd rather get 360, the complete package!

After having a Firewall, and actually seeing all the things they protect me from (via reports), I could never go back to not having them. If I couldn't have 360 for some reason, I'd definitely use NIS.

Other Things To Know About Antiviruses
Never ever install multiple antivirus software. They will read each other as viruses. I know crazy, but this happens with them all.

- Great lens. It is hard for me to say which I prefer. We have Norton on our desktop (it was preinstalled and we continue to ungrade/renew it) and I have Mcafee on my laptop. They both have pros & cons but now that I have tryed them both, I honestly don't have a preference. I did find out the hard way that Mcafree doesn't always "play well" with Internet Explorer upgrades. Great advice about only using one antivirus. We had a family member (not in our household) who found out about that the hard way too.

- Great comparison. I've used both of these programs with success, and just switched to Kaspersky, which was recommended by a salesperson at Best Buy.
