Digital Photography Tricks that are not Really a Secret, but Amazingly Effective!
Would you like to improve your pictures with some digital photography tricks? If you are like me, you have spent a lot of time (and sometimes a lot of money) taking pictures that, well, are not that great. I decided about nine months ago to change all that. I took some classes and read a few books.
When I found out that they are easy to learn, I decided to share them. So, here are four simple techniques that I have learned that will help your picture taking ability. These are simple ideas to improve your photography.
They won't make you a professional, but these digital photography tricks will make your photographs better and maybe even great.
So let's get started:
When I found out that they are easy to learn, I decided to share them. So, here are four simple techniques that I have learned that will help your picture taking ability. These are simple ideas to improve your photography.
They won't make you a professional, but these digital photography tricks will make your photographs better and maybe even great.
So let's get started:
Digital Photography Tricks - One of the Easiest - Fill the Frame
One thing that I always do when taking pictures (and it has taken a lot of practice) is to fill the frame with the subject. Most "snapshots" have a lot of space in them that is either clutter or empty.Sometimes when I take a picture of an object, I allow part of it to extend beyond the frame. The human brain will fill in the parts that are missing. A great digital photography trick to the brain!
If you think that you are close enough to the subject, always get closer. When you think you are too close, then that is close enough.
Also, talking about clutter, when you look through your view finder or at the LCD screen, always look at what is around your subject. Is yesterday's newspaper sitting on the floor, what about any trash, other people that you don't want in the "scene".
Pay close attention to what is in the frame that you don't want in the final picture. Can you move whatever in the picture out of the way? What about taking the picture from a different angle? Just remember when you have returned home from that incredible trip of a lifetime and start reviewing your photos and then you start seeing items that should not be in your picture, like the "do not lean on the railing" sign. It could be too late or take hours to edit out the unwanted item. If you just take a few seconds when taking the picture and review what is in the scene so that a headache can be avoided later.

Digital Photography Tricks Involve Repetition
Could you repeat that?
Patterns are everywhere. Nature is the master at patterns and repeating. Any object, color or texture that is repeated can become a great photograph. It could be leaves, windows on a building, sea shells or just about anything.Another great idea is to find a repeating pattern and then show where it breaks. Maybe a whole box full of red apples and one yellow one. The juxtaposition between the colors creates a magnetic effect so that the viewer's eye is drawn towards the "odd man out".
If you use some of the other digital photography tricks I have explained along with a repetition like; leading lines/ color/ rule of thirds, your photographs will pop!
Digital Photography Tricks - One of the Most Under Utilized
Can I Reflect a While on that?
There are so many reflective surfaces around us, water, glass, chrome, mirrors, my forehead. Okay, not my forehead (most of the time), I was making sure you were still listening. It seems that out of all of the digital photography tricks that I know, using reflective surfaces to take better pictures is not used very often. Anyway, the surface could be smooth and highly reflective, like a mirror or the exact opposite like a sculpted glass figurine. If you move around the reflective object, as your point of view changes, so does the shape of any object being reflected.
You can even use glass to create two images out of one. The image could contain a person on the opposite side of the glass as well as a reflection of someone walking by on this side, Double Prizes!

Digital Photography Tricks Don't have to be Difficult
A Frame Within a Frame - Did I Repeat Myself?
I am not talking about the "picture frame". I am talking about putting an object "inside" another frame object. Some digital photography tricks are about forcing the eye to gravitate to a section of the photo. One way to explain it is to take a picture through a doorway, but have the doorway "frame" the object beyond. You can use any object or objects that will create "walls" around the subject, Leaves, doorway, window, people, or just about anything.
When you create the frame around the subject, it draws the viewer's eye to the center of the picture. It highlights what you want the viewer to see.
If you look at the picture to the right, you notice that it is "framed" by leaves and those draw your eye directly to the waterfall.
I hope you use all of these digital photography tricks to take better pictures. If you look below, there are other articles and books that I recommend for even more digital photography tricks.
