Tired of Traditional Christmas Music, Why Not Try Alternative Holiday Music This Year?

Image from Amazon.com
Yes, there is an alternative to traditional Christmas Music. Believe it or not, some of it is actually really good and even original. But because you hear the same old "Dominic the Donkey", "Jingle Bells", and "Deck the Halls", year after year, you might not have had the opportunity of ever hearing it.

It's a shame that the mainstream doesn't really play anything more than the traditional Christmas music, and I felt that it was a sound that I wanted to really introduce to more people.

So have a listen, and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

Alternative Christmas Music Top Pick

"All I want For Christmas" by My Chemical Romance

My Chemical Romance

Alternative Christmas Music

alternative christmas MCR I was first introduced to this awesome band at the ripe old age of 37. My daughter, Chelsea, wanted to see them in concert. Since she was only 15 at the time, AND I am the coolest of moms, I decided I would take her. Plus I wanted to see what this band was all about.

I’ve got to say, I am still suprised that I had as much fun as I did! If you ever get the chance to see them in concert, you should go. My Chemical Romance are the best performers I have ever seen, and that’s saying a lot.

Because of that… One of the best Alternative Christmas Songs on my list is “All I Want For Christmas” by My Chemical Romance is at the top of my list. If you like it, you can buy the single “All I Want For Christmas” by My Chemical Romance Here!

And you can check out the rest of the album Gift Wrapped: 20 Songs That Keep On Giving too!

Have a listen to one of my favorites!

All I Want For Christmas

by My Chemical Romance 2005

Alternative Christmas music doesn’t get much better than this. Even though it is a spin off of the very traditional “All I Want For Christmas”, it is one of the best ones I’ve ever heard. It gets you rocking and rolling and ready to bring on the Christmas Cheer!!! (And it beats Mariah Carey’s version, in my opinion, any one of the 12 days of Christmas.)
Hope you enjoy it!

Alternative Christmas Music Second Pick

"Christmas Wrapping" By The Waitresses

The Waitresses

Alternative Christmas Music

alternative christmas the waitresses Another great alternative Christmas song is one that has been around for years. It was originally released in 1981 and was sung by the same girl punk band who recorded the theme from Square Pegs.

Something about this Christmas song makes me feel young again. Perhaps it’s because I was 9 when the song was released and 1981 was a time when life (and Christmas) was so simple. Ahhh…. those were the days!

Again, if you like it, you can pick it up for your own Christmas music collection here.

I couldn’t find a video with The Waitresses singing “Christmas Wrapping”, but, I thought this was pretty awesome! It got me in the mood and I danced around my living room dancing to this! Pretty Cool and Ho Ho Ho to you all!

Alternative Christmas Music Final Pick

Merry Merry Merry Frickin' Christmas by Frickin' A

Frickin ' A

Alternative Christmas Music

alternative christmas frickin' a Frickin’ A’s alternative song “Merry Merry Merry Frickin’ Christmas” has been around since 2004 and they get regular play on VH1 at Christmas time. They are a punk rock band that originates from Cincinatti Ohio and their real claim to fame is a remake of Rick Springfield’s “Jessie’s Girl“.

Although the name is pretty risque, I really like the song. Plus the it was the Red Sox Anthem for their World Championship season in 2004, so it can’t be all that bad!

This band’s idea of Christmas music is definitely alternative and it is really popular with kids that are under 21! This vid is great because it also gives you the lyrics, so you can really get the full effect!

It’s rockin’ and rollin’ and it’s pretty darn good! Merry Frickin’ Christmas to y’all!

If you love alternative 80s/new wave music, you should try to find a copy of "Just In Time For Christmas" from IRS records. It's one of my favorite Christmas albums featuring different, fun songs by Squeeze, Wall of Voodoo, Dread Zeppelin and Klark Kent! Fun lens, I love the Waitresses song - it's one that always makes me want to dance. :)
