Origins of Nothing But Nets - An Article

Send a Net - Save a Life

The United Nations Foundation has been working with the United Nations to fight malaria for years, it was a column that Rick Reilly wrote about malaria in April 2006 Sports Illustrated that sparked a response.

In his article he challenged each of his readers to donate at least $10 for the purchase of an anti-malaria bed nets.

The incredible response from thousands of Americans across the country led to the creation the Nothing But Nets campaign.

Nothing but Nets just completed distributing the first round of 150,000 nets to Nigeria through the Measles Initiative - a partnership of the United Nations Foundation, American Red Cross, U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention, World Health Organization, UNICEF and local country governments and ministries of health.

Nets - The Perfect Holiday Gift

Give a Net. Save a Life.

Malaria is transmitted by the bite of mosquitoes. One of the best ways of reducing malaria in Africa is to get the people to use mosquito nets to help prevent mosquito bites.

O Magazine encouraged it's readers in 2007 to give a net as a perfect gift for the holidays. It is an example proving that small donations can make a world of good.

A $10 net, which is big enough to protect a family of four, remain effective for up to four years, becoming a gift that keeps on giving. Buy a bed net now.
