Not Just Purses

I recently launched a new site called Not Just Purses that focuses on the good in people, helping to reclaim that lost 'me time' and do the things people love, which is shop.

This is such a fluid process and there is always something to be done regarding the site. I'm very excited about the growth I have planned for it and proud of the work that's gone into it. But like Sara Winchester, I think the hammers will always keep hammering and I will always keep creating.

My background is somewhat eclectic having spent years in the world of software, countless hours gaming online, and having a background tinkering with home party businesses. I am finding that learning about everything that goes into building and promoting websites is that missing piece of the puzzle for me. There are so many things to learn, a wide open field for creativity and it allows me to do what I love which is write.

I think Squidoo has to be one of my favorite social networking tools to use. My experiences with others (MySpace, HubPages, Digg, etc..) have been good but not as straight forward as Squidoo has been.

I really like that I have the ability to add modules, customize the page. I think I'll have to take some time to go back and update some earlier lens's with snazzier graphics.

My next challenge is going to be promoting my new lens's. The first ones just seemed to be of interest and not require a lot of promotion, although traffic's been low. The latest lens's are ones I want to get out there so my mind is reeling with ways to promote them. Aside from my standard pinging, bookmarking, emailing, linking.. I think I'm entering a new stage.

Another todo is to start networking with more people on these services. I think MySpace sucked a good few hours of my life away in their Music category. I'll admit I had a lot of fun just listening to the songs and seeing who all was out there.

The ironic thing is, for someone that has worked in the software field for so many years, I sure wasn't keeping up with this end of things. No shortage of things to learn and share with others!

I am working on two websites that I look forward to incorporating into Not Just Purses. Since Not Just Purses focuses on being well while being in style, its sister sites will cover additional topics that may be of interest; women's relationships and women's issues.

The first rule of focus is this: "Wherever you are, be there."

For now, Not Just Purses remains my wild stallion to tame.

I just finished a lens I got some pretty powerful inspiration for. I'm not really sure where the inspiration came from, but once it did I just knew I wanted to run with it.

Maybe I'm slower than others? It took a couple full days to really think about what I wanted to put in the lens and do the research to get it put together in a presentable state. I'm already noticing this process is getting easier and proud that I got a little more adventurous with some of module features.

The challenging part still remains, remembering to ping, promote, advertise, communicate.. all the little administrative stuff to help get word out.
