Not Mainstream Science
Science: the infinite frontier. Everyone has a theory. Some are mainstream, some are not. Exploring the not mainstream, as well as the mainstream.
Not Mainstream Thoughts Through the Ages
Since the beginning of history, Mainstream Science has always been the final authority. Mainstream thoughts of the past have included the observations that the earth is the center of the universe and that the earth is flat.
While risking the possible consequence of being labeled heretics, the Not Mainstream also voiced opinions. Eventually, some Not Mainstream thoughts became Mainstream.

Herodotus (c. 484 - c. 425 B.C.)
The History of Herodotus
The second opinion (i.e.: theory) is even more unscientific than the one just mentioned, and also, if I may say so, more marvellous. It is that the Nile acts so strangely, because it flows from the ocean and that the ocean flows all around the earth.
Pliny the Elder ( 23 A.D. - 79 A.D.)
Natural History
Who does not know that the solar fires are excited at the rising of the dog star (Sirius, in August) whose effect is great and is felt on Earth?...Undoubtedly, dogs are most likely to be rabid during the whole of this time (note: in ancient times, certain diseases and plagues were noticed to reoccur during warm weather months).
Bede (c. 673 A.D. - 735 A.D.)
A History of the English Church and People
In the year 538, an eclipse of the sun occurred on the sixteenth of February, lasting from Prime (i.e.: 6 a.m.) to Terce (i.e.: 9 a.m.).
In the year 540, an eclipse of the sun occurred on the twentieth of June, and the stars appeared for nearly half an hour after the hour of Terce.
In the year 644, an eclipse occurred.
In the month of August 678...a star known as a comet appeared, which remained visible for three months, rising in the morning and emitting what seemed to be a tall column of bright flame.
In the year of our Lord 729, two comets appeared around the sun...One comet rose early and preceded the sun (i.e.: in the east, occurring during the daytime), while the other followed the setting sun at evening (i.e.: in the west, occurring at nightime)...They appeared in the month of January, and remained visible for about a fortnight, bearing their fiery tails northward as though to set the welkin (i.e.: the vault of heaven or the sky) aflame.

Will Rogers (1879 - 1935)
Will Rogers Speaks
There are certain things nature can do to you, whether it's an earthquake in California, a flood in Mississippi, a tornado in Ohio, or a drought in Arkansas. When nature enters into it, don't criticize (note: notice U.S. weather patterns, pre-WWII).

- I believe that at one time our mooon was a planet between mercury and venus. Venus picked it up into it's gravety and in doing so caused it to wobble into earth. venus collided with earth and when sent away reversed it's rotation. the planet (our moon) fought between the two gravitational pulls and earth won which almost stopping the rotation of our moon.
