Great Minds Think Alike - and Make Great Lenses

I know it's happened to you, too. You get this great idea for a lens then search Squidoo to see if it's been done. In the results you find someone beat you to the punch.

Well, this lens is an homage to those lensmasters who have created content that I would have if they didn't. In most cases, I'll have to concede that theirs are probably better than mine would have been. :)

So, check 'em out, and let them know what a great job they did!

Great Work, Squids!

Copycat

Here are a couple lenses I did without checking to see if the subect was already covered... oops.

Any other thoughts?

What do you do if someone has already done a lens on a topic you're interested in?

in reply to JaguarJulieOh -- there I go talking to myself again! ;) You know more and more I am finding lenses that I thought I created, but they are by another lensmaster. Lots of great minds thinking alike !!!

This is such a cute idea, thanks for putting it together. Just today when I was visiting around the new angel lenses to say congratulations (congratulations!) I saw one about "Mothering Sunday," an English holiday that some really beautiful songs have been written about. I recorded one of them a while back and was thinking of doing a lens to support the song, but then I saw - it's covered...

Yeah I know how this feels! I was going to do one about Zazzle, but so many people have done that, I decided not to bother. And I didn't find out somebody already did a Delilah lens until after I had mine created! As a general rule, if I know somebody already made a lens about something and did a better job than I could ever do, I'll just fave their lens and move on.

This is a great topic! Well, when I did my lens on the original Amazon Kindle, I thought I was being original -- and then I saw SO many lenses on that topic -- Ooops ... I wanted to write about it because I bought it when it first was available. I was so excited about getting it that I sent my hubby home to check our front door to see if the UPS guy had left it. I try to be original as much as possible.

I used to feel that if a lens had already been done then I just wouldn't make a lens about that subject. I think that experience has told me that if I find something I really want to write about though I just do it in another way.

What a clever idea and a nice way to spotlight other's lenses! Thank you so much for spotlighting my soy lens too! And I agree with MysticMama that sometimes I go search lenses and think, "I can do better than that" and make one anyway...but you have so many ideas I'm sure you can come up with more. 5*

This was such a clever idea for a lens and yes, I have had it happen to me many times. It is fun, however to see the different takes that people have on certain topics. FYI: This looks like Giant quality to me. Very creative.

Fun Lens! I agree with mysticmama- I'd try and approach the subject from a different angle and add a bit of what's unique to me in it e.g. I'd make some art about the subject. There's a lens I really want to make about an artist but a lot of lenses have been made about this person so I'm going to make some art based on them and put it into the lens and see if that works. I have way too much time on my hands!
