spooky sights and places the haunts of ghost hunting in and around Nottingham the home of Robin Hood
Nottingham is one of the most haunted places in England. Their are moans and groans of prisoners and hostages, poltergeists, apparitions of men and women and dark shadowy figures that are hard to make out. You can go on guided ghost walks or mooch around the sights to see for yourself.
Nottingham really is a spooky city. So if you are after a Ghost Tour, Nottingham is the place to visit. If you are looking for real haunted places then Nottingham has to be one of the most haunted places in the world to visit. A great place to start is Ye Olde Salutation Inn in the city centre pictured here. It can be found on Maid Marion way near the castle.

Ghosts of Wollaton Hall In Nottingham
Wollaton Hall is a grand Elizabethan house in the suburbs of Nottingham. It is claimed that sounds of ghostly children's voices can be heard. The most dramatic story is the ghost of Charlotte Middleton who following a serious accident on her 18th birthday was confined to a room in the hall. After seemingly being restored to health after 20 years her maid danced with her until, exhausted, they collapsed on the bed. The maid awoke to find her mistress dead. She now haunts the room.
Ghosts of Roman Soldiers In Nottingham
Just 8 miles to the east of Nottingham lies the The Fosse Way. This Roman road linked Exeter to Lincoln and is designated the A46 on modern road maps.
Henson Lane is a connecting road off the Fosse Way that runs between Cropwell Butler and Upper Saxondale. It is along this lane that a ghostly Roman Legion is said to march.
The Ghosts of Saxondale Lunatic Asylum
The grounds of former county lunatic asylum, now re-developed as the village Upper Saxondale are said to be haunted by two ghosts Lady Elinor Denison and Sir Sam Wilson. Lady Ellinor Denison lived at Ossington Hall. It is unclear why she haunts the grounds. Like Lady Elinor information about the reasons Sir Sam WIlson haunts the grounds is sparse.

Nottingham Galleries of Justice Ghosts
The Galleries of Justice were originally built as a prison way back in 1149. With executions taking place up the mid-19th century. The building is said to be full of paranormal activity, from the entrance hall, where the ghosts of a Victorian man, a soldier and a lady walk, the court room with knocking and moaning, dark figures on the balcony, the cells, the laundry, the courtyard that covers the old burial ground and the most haunted area of all the subterranean caves, where people have been touched and stones thrown about. If you are brave enough you might go to 'the pits' where people are touched and can feel very poorly until they leave.

Ye Olde Trip To Jerusalem Ghosts
nestled beneath Nottingham Castle the oldest pub in England has some ghostly happenings
The oldest inn in England has very strange happenings. The sound of breaking glass that disappears when staff go to clear it up, foot soldiers that walk through the building, evil spirits in the wall clock, and a woman in crinolines walking down to the cellars. It is said that the pub was a mustering point for Medieval Crusaders.
Here's a photo I took of the pub on St George's day 2012

Ghostly Cries For Mercy in Nottingham Castle
During 1212 a.d. 28 sons of Welsh nobles were held in the castle by King John (along with the Sheriff of Nottingham, Robin Hoods arch enemy) Without reason King John ordered the boys execution, some were as young as 12 years old.
Their cries for mercy can still be heard in the castle grounds.
